This mourning I got up and decided to stay true to my Aeropause duty by writing about a news item. To my dismay I remember it was April Fools and decided to wait a day so I don’t report on some false item. However this is too good to pass up. IGN made a fake teaser trailer of the Legend of Zelda Movie. It’s funny how great the production value is for a small April Fool’s Joke. Check it out.

Sheik is not a new addition to the Smash Bros franchise, having appeared most recently in the Gamecube iteration, Super Smash Bros Melee. Those who’ve been away for a little while might remember her as the mysterious stranger in the future Hyrule that Link travels to who offers him advice and, more often, some brief, catchy tunes that let him do various things like turn night to day or warp to various places in the overworld.
Sheik returns as an alternate form of Zelda, just as she was in Melee, changing the moveset the princess has significantly.
Use Zelda’s down special move to transform into Sheik! Once you do so, you’ll have access to a new character completely unique from Zelda.
Sheik doesn’t appear in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, but we based her model on a design that was drafted up during the development of that game.
I find it fascinating that Sheik was originally intended to appear in Twilight Princess. I did not know that.

Recent releases Super Mario Galaxy (Wii) and The Orange Box (PC) have taken possession of two of the top five slots over at GameRankings.com. Galaxy taking over Ocarina’s slot is a big deal, because that position’s been held fast for about a decade now. The last game to break the top five was Resident Evil 4 on GameCube, which has now slipped to eighth. Soul Calibur (Dreamcast) is still kicking at four. Orange Box for 360 sits in position six.
Now naturally, this needs to be seen for what it is: a measure of the average of these games’ reviews. There’s no way to accurately measure which game is “best,” and I disagreed with the thought that Ocarina was the best game ever even when it held that slot on this list. Perhaps I would have liked the game more if I had played it when it was new.
Infendo, which is a Nintendo-centric blog, points out that this puts Mario, Zelda, and Metroid (Prime) in the top three, in that order. Good for Nintendo, but I still see Orange Box more likely to take game of the year.

OK, so in order to get this stylus, you need to jump through a couple of hoops. First, you need to get The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. Then, you need to go to Nintendo.com and register the game in your My Nintendo account. Then, if you don’t have a Nintendo Power subscription, you can fill out a little survey about Nintendo Power and they’ll send you this attractive plastic quill stylus in a cute little box. My wife ordered this one weeks ago, and it finally came. I’m still waiting for my Wii Remote Jackets, though. Hm. Click through for more pictures.
A look at the most anticipated titles coming to Nintendo Wii in November, 2007.
When a Mario platformer appears, it is an event. Ever since Super Mario Bros came to the NES, whether you’ve liked them or not, it is inarguable that every Mario platformer has innovated the platform genre in a way that, for better or worse, set a new standard. November will mark the release of Super Mario Galaxy for Nintendo Wii, perhaps the biggest title for the platform this year, and one which is certain to sell extremely well. What do you put up against Super Mario Galaxy? You’ll be surprised at the guns developers are bringing to bear this month as they crowd to be a hot new game on Black Friday.

Somehow, the Aeropause crew managed to work poison chihuahuas into the mix as well as a great guest. JC Fletcher of DSFanboy and NintendoWiiFanboy joined us from Houston this week to provide commentary on all things regarding poison chihuahuas and maybe mixed in a little commentary about games here and there. He also brought the shock of the week by letting the audience know that Looney Tunes: Duck Amuck is a well made and fun game. Inconceivable we say!

Mentions of not only the Burger King but the northern nationality of our special guest, James King from The Wiire, abound in the latest issue of the Aeropodcast.
James, being from Canada, takes every opportunity to not only mock our somewhat less impressive currency’s coloring as well as its lack of cleanliness, but to extol the virtues of hockey and occasionally even say, “eh.” Well, no, I made up that very last part, but I’m still bitter about that bird pecking out the president’s eyes. Before I continue on with this editorial slash wistful review, I have to issue a major spoiler warning. The body of this article is going to have details on the last portion and ending of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and is solely intended for readers who either have already completed the game or never intend to. Naturally, I won’t put any of that into this introductory section, so if you just keep right on scrolling you can go right on happily chopping away at monsters and finding rupees in treasure chests. That would be now. Have a nice day.

As we’ve been seeing, there are lots of Phantom Hourglass related accessories appearing for the Nintendo DS now. With the game less than a month away, it’s gotten to a pretty remarkable level. The other day in Target, as I mentioned on the last podcast (which is not really a podcast at all), I saw some new cases for the DS Lite, sporting some nice embroidery. There were two designs: a folio, and a play-through case, and both were available in multiple colors and either with the Zelda seal or Mario and Luigi.
I snapped the terrible cell phone photo above to illustrate. You might also note the pricing, which seemed reasonable at the time, but looking at it now seems a little steep.

Nintendo’s promoting its core franchises in interesting ways these days. Today, they unveiled a contest that lets people answer three embarrassingly easy questions via text message on their phone (or hand-written snail mail) about the Zelda franchise in an effort to win one of ten prizes, including a grand prize that prominently features a shopping spree at the Nintendo World Store in Times Square. I’m not going to lie about this, that sounds just ducky to me. I looked over the documentation they provided and it looks like they’re not charging for the text messages. Of course, you need to pay your carrier for the messages as you would any other, but these don’t appear to be something Nintendo’s making money off of, which would be unacceptable in this context.
So what you do is text the word zelda to 20769 and wait for the questions, which will come one at a time. Answer all of them correctly, and you’re in. The on-paper entry seems like such a hassle, but if you want to do it that way, you can see them at the link below, or right here. Note that if you do it via text message, the questions change! I was surprised.
I was also surprised that the system, while quick, was not working properly when I tried. I answered the questions properly, and in the weird way it specified, and yet it would not advance past the second question. What a nuisance.
Question 1: The Zelda series’ heroic main character ranks as one of Nintendo’s most popular characters. What is his name?
Question 2: Name the pretty pirate captain Link seeks to rescue in Phantom Hourglass.
Question 3: In the Legend of Zelda series, what powerful relic is made up of three golden triangles?

UPDATE: Hours after giving me wacky responses to my answers to the questions, the questions suddenly started showing up properly on my phone and I was able to complete entry.
