While researching Harriton High School, you know the one recently in the news for spying on its students via webcams on their laptops, I couldn’t help but notice the apparel of one young teenager featured on the school district’s website: the Guitar Hero World Tour t-shirt. While it’s a nice change to see something like that in a public image, and not blurred out for once, I can’t help but feel sorry for him since he probably paid full-price for the game. Here’s hoping that he picked up Rock Band after he realized his wrong-doing. On second thought, that evil look on his face may be indicative of how much he enjoyed it and wishes Rock Band would die.

Who here is a Transformers fan? I mean a real Transformers fan. Someone that tried to analyze how those little cassettes in Soundwave could grow to be so huge when ejected? Or someone who debates the merits of Galvatron vs. Megatron. Maybe even someone that secretly worshipped Rodimus Prime (sacrilige).

Well for those people, today is a good day. It seems that a posting by a writer over at Kotaku, about getting Stan Bush’s “The Touch” into a guitar based music game got around and it looks like Guitar Hero World Tour will be offering the cult hit as free DLC. For those that are unaware of “The Touch”, it is the main theme song that plays behind Optimus Prime as he heads out to fight Megatron in the greatest robot battle ever. Just thinking about it brings a tear to my eye.

The only sad thing about this announcement is that the DLC is for Guitar Hero World Tour and not Rock Band. Harmonix, you must get on it and put this song in your catalog pronto. We need to be able to rock out to our favorite Transformers memories. “One Shall Stand, The Other Shall Fall”

For those of you who are PS3 owners, you don’t get the band kit on the cheap, but you can get the Guitar Hero World Tour game for $29.90.

These deals end on Monday, so get them while you can and tell them Aeropause sent you.

While most retailers were releasing some dismal numbers for the holiday season, Gamestop seemed to defy the fiscal gloom posting some rather impressive numbers for their fourth quarter of sales.

Gamestop showed a 10.2% increase in same-store sales for shops that have been opened for at least one year, during the shopping period of November 2 to January 2. Gamestop posted a profit of $2.86 billion (USD) for the two month period, which is huge considering the fact that many people were just not spending money during the holiday season due to the current economic situation.

Three of the top five selling titles were Activision Blizzard branded, including “Call of Duty: World at War”, “Guitar Hero World Tour” and “World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King”. Gears of War 2 from Microsoft and Wii Fit from Nintendo rounded out the top five. When it came to hardware, the top two brands were the Nintendo Wii and Microsoft Xbox 360 consoles.

And since no one seemed to like our on file Gamestop picture, primarily because no one had ever seen a Gamestop that looked that nice, I have uploaded a new photo of a Gamestop storefront.

One of the more unique features of Guitar Hero World Tour over its Rock Band second-cousin is the ability for users to create a share custom made tracks via GHTunes. Though in the end this feature did not turn out quite as rich as some of us had hoped (and who really expected it to be a replacement for premium DLC, anyway?) but some crafty users had managed to make some pretty good recreations of the music from Nintendo’s Mario and The Legend of Zelda games. However, we had been warned previously that Activision would be scouring the service for copyrighted material and would be removing these tracks when discovered, and they have lived up to their threat promise

On the one hand, I can’t get mad at or blame Activision for protecting their own asses. However, I find it highly unlikely they could be held legally liable for user-created content in the first place, but I suppose in the event they were sued it would make for a better argument if they could show that they are actively removing copyrighted material from the service. Plus I’m sure it helps their relations with the music industry. But, of course, the gamer in me wants to be able to use GHTunes to supplement the so-far slow DLC releases. I remember people making a stink that the 20 Rock Band 2 Bonus Track were from a bunch of artists nobody had heard of; and thats pretty much how I feel about GHTunes now.

I am not sure where to go with this one, but I did find it amusing. It seems that the follow up to the Kobe/A-Rod/Phelps Guitar Hero World Tour commercial, is using some sex appeal to get the masses out to purchase the game. Yes, probably inspired by the hundreds of videos starring young gals parading around their Wii’s with little more than their undergarmets, we now have Heidi Klum, showing off the twins, while rocking out with Guitar Hero World Tour. So while you may or may not buy Guitar Hero World Tour (Its a TRAP!), you can at least enjoy a woman parading around in her underwear, all in the name of commercialism.

Not too long after Guitar Hero World Tour hit the pavement, complaints were starting to come from the gaming community that there were some issues with the drum kits. The biggest complaint seemed to be the fact that the two cymbals would not register hits at all, or would not register the velocity correctly. In rare cases, some reported hairline cracks in the cymbal supports.

On top of the physical issues with the drums, PS3 owners were also shocked to find out that the promised musical instrument compatibility they were suppose to receive did not happen. The Guitar Hero World Tour drums did not want to work in Rock Band 2 as had been previously advertised.

Today, Activision has released a formal statement covering the first issues of stability and registering velocity. However, it did not address the PS3 support issues with Rock Band 2. The statement discusses a drum calibration kit, and a support number if you have broken hardware. Activision does state that these issues look to be from an early run of hardware, but still, after all the issues Rock Band had with broken drum sets, I would have hoped Red Octaine and Activision would have done a better job. Check the jump for the press release.

“We have learned that certain drum kit controllers manufactured for Guitar Hero World Tour have sensitivity issues. We believe that these controllers are limited to ones in the earlier manufacturing stages. While we believe that this was an isolated manufacturing issue, we are stepping our efforts to randomly test our drum kit controllers so customers can be assured they work properly. In the event any consumers do experience problems with their drum kit controllers associated with sensitivity issues, Activision will soon be offering a drum tuning kit that will enable players to fully optimize their drums.

Our goal would be to immediately address any hardware issues Guitar Hero World Tour players have with the game. Consumers should visit the Activision Publishing customer support website at www.activision.com/support website or call 310 255-2050 in the U.S. where a customer care representative will assist them. Activision is fully committed to the highest quality manufacturing standards, and to satisfying every Guitar Hero World Tour fan so they can enjoy the best musical gaming experience ever created.”

Koss, Fourhman and Joe come to the table to discuss all things digital ownership, wondering how much of what you buy on your consoles and PC do you own. What happens to your games that you buy through the marketplace when the new consoles come out. The discussion also looks at the idea of download caps on things you buy, currently in use in the Sony online video store and the Electronic Arts digital store.

We also have a ton of community news including some new reviews and a question about how we got our online nicknames. In the news we talk about the Soulcalibur 4 DLC (duh), a possible new Syndicate game and the Motorstorm 2 demo, to name a few topics.
