I’d put it off long enough, thinking it would be just another shooter, but last night I scrolled down the XMB to the Wolfenstein demo. The game has been predicted by many to flop primarily because of the marketing power that isn’t behind it, despite very good reviews. The XMB icon itself didn’t excite me: Killzone 2 called and they want their glowing red eyes back. The title screen of a crashed WW2 plane had me grimacing. I never played World War II games — I like my shooters with a dose of sci-fi. Am I really going to play a demo for just another WW2 shooter?
Right from the start, though, the Wolfenstein demo sets itself apart from the riff-raff. The opening cut scene looks astonishingly good. You get the action-hero vibe right away and you know there are non-standard things coming when the medallion is introduced. The good things about this demo didn’t stop there, either.

I was going to write up a demo impression for WET, but to be honest, the demo is the exact same gameplay that I played back at E3 2009. As a matter of fact, the demo is shorter than the E3 presentation, because you don’t get to see the end of the freeway sequence in the demo on the 360.
I would recommend everyone at least try WET and see if you like it. I was far more impressed with the game than I had been when it was announced by Sierra several years ago. You can find the demo over on the Xbox Live Marketplace. And as mentioned, it is exclusive to Gold members for the first week it is out.

With a press release so big, it flew in all the way from Germany, we learned that a Brutal Legend demo is set to hit the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 in September. Unfortunately, we don’t have an exact date as of this writing, because the link in the press release goes to a placeholder post. One would assume the demo will be early September, so people have a long tail to try Brutal Legend out before it hits store shelves.
Check out more in the press release after the jump.
After finishing the Darkest of Days demo, I was impressed with the premise of the game and the size and scope of the battlefields you encounter on your trip to the past. That said, there is something that feels average about Darkest of Days that I cannot quite put my finger on as of yet. It is a competent shooter, has fluid, if not great graphics, and a sense of historical accuracy to a degree, but nothing really raises up to the level of top shelf gaming here.
PhantomEFX is relatively new to the gaming world, normally displaying their work inside of casinos rather than your computer screen or Xbox 360. But PhantomEFX made a choice to move into the computer and console gaming arena with Darkest of Days, an FPS that focuses on time travel to specific points in history to preserve the timeline from criminals that want to change history.
Today we got two new announcements from PhantomEFX. The first is the trailer above that shows off some of the weapons that you will get to use in Darkest of Days. The weapons are all authentic recreations of weapons you might have to use at certain points in history. Using a future based weapon in the past might get some notice from the locals, so you can see the idea of having to use weapons from their specific era. The other announcement is the release of a demo on the PC. I am sure a 360 version is on its way, but if you want to check out the demo for Darkest of Days on your PC, head over to Fileplanet for the download.
Coming in just a little over a month before its release to stores, we have a Tiger Woods PGA Championship 10 demo dropping on both the PS3 and Xbox 360. The demo allows players to play through a couple of holes on both the US Open Bethpage Black course and the British Open Turnberry course. The demo will also include the 17th hole from the Sawgrass to show off the new Tournament Challenge mode. The Xbox 360 version of the demo can be added to your download queue here, while the PS3 version can be found on the Playstation Store demo area.
The full version of Tiger Woods 10 can be had on Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Nintendo Wii, Playstation 2 and the Playstation Portable. Check the jump for the full 411.

As announced earlier this week, the Red Faction: Guerrilla demo hit both the Xbox 360 and the PS3. Recalling the original game, I got decently excited at the chance to play the game. See, I never played the original. One of my roommates in college, ahem… ‘borrowed’ a copy of it, so I got to see some of it over his shoulder. To be honest, I paid no attention to the development of the latest iteration until the demo hit. I was expecting to re-visit the old Red Faction: ‘fully’ destructible environments, in a FPS game. Let’s see how that expectation lived up. Read the rest of this entry »
Back in 2007, I got to see some of the first footage of UFC 2009 at the THQ press conference. It looked decent at the time but I was really skeptical that the sport had actually caught enough of an audience to deserve a game, especially when compared to boxing. Fast forward two years and I am totally having to eat crow as UFC has not only grown exponentially, but has blown past boxing in the eyes of most.
That said, I cannot confess that I am one of those fans. I have always found the sport of MMA fighting to be a bit brutal and harsh. Some of those opinions come from the fact that I remember when the sport first launched over 12 years ago, when it was rather unregulated, and the only rules were no eye gouging, no groin shots and no hooking. Again, Dana White has taken the reigns of the MMA sporting world, building his UFC brand from obscurity to a multi-million dollar enterprise. Even with my reservations about the sport, I did want to try the demo, because I like a good, well rounded fighting game, and the fact that it is the first time the genre is being represented in video game form. So I downloaded the demo and spend a half hour with it and I have to admit that I came away liking it far more than I thought.
THQ announced today that they have released a demo for their upcoming MMA licensed game, UFC 2009: Undisputed. The demo takes a queue from the last weekend’s UFC 97 fightcard in Quebec, Canada, setting up a match between former Light Heavyweight Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.
Also included in the demo is a portion of the tutorial, so people can get acclimated to the new control scheme that will have players using normal fisticuffs as well as takedowns, grapples, kicks and holds. UFC 2009 presents a different style of fighter that has yet to be seen on the consoles, because of the combinations of fighting styles.
If you want to add the demo to your Xbox 360 download queue, follow this link.
The wait for Capcom’s new Bionic Commando is almost over, as it is suppose to be shipping in May of 2009. However, for those that are itching to play the game early, there will be a demo arriving on both the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
The demo will feature the online component of Bionic Commando, and will include the “Vertigo” map, one of 16 maps in the boxed game, and will allow up to 8 players to shoot, grab and maim their opponents.
Bionic Commando will include a full-featured single player story mode that expands on the original 8-bit classic, while including solo and team based multiplayer modes along with the vernerable Capture the Flag.
The Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 version of Bionic Commando will ship on May 19th, 2009, while the PC verion will come shortly thereafter.
