A “kollector’s edition” of Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe will arrive alongside the regular release in mid-November, packed with an exclusive comic book drawn by Mortal Kombat co-creator John Tobias. Midway released a brief video about this comic (shouldn’t that be “komic”?) that comics megasite CBR ran last week.
But I’m interested in one of the comics pages that drip by in a montage near the end of the video. In the screencap above, you’ll note the appearance of Johnny Cage, Goro, Aquaman and Robin. Two MK, two DC. Could this mean these guys are actually playable in the game, or is this just comic book backstory padding? Heck, that comic page could be describing why that quartet isn’t in the game!
To date, MK vs DCU only has 22 confirmed characters… which is on the low side for a modern fighting game, particularly when the cast is already split down the middle between two competing franchises. Another four fighters would be very nice… but what do you think? Genuine spoiler material, or just bonus printed fan-service?

The question with Mortal Kombat vs. DC has been the idea of fatalities and how they will work. Well we do know at this point that some people will have fatalities and some will not. The DC good guys will have finishing moves, but they will not kill people. Bad guys are open game, and it looks like someone at NeoGAF got some screen caps and put it together in a gif format to show the fatality for The Joker.
I really do like the fatality as it stays true to what The Joker would do in the comic books. Funny, yet brutal all at the same time, still showing off the insanity of the man behind the white face and pearly red smile.
Go ahead and click the jump to see the fatality and let us know what you think about it and how the game is looking in general.

So Midway has finally released some gameplay footage for their upcoming fighting game, Mortal Kombat vs. DC, and I have to say that I am impressed. The fighting looks good, especially the fact that you can now continue to fight while dropping between levels. The effects look good, and fatalaties are definitely in, as well can guess from the fate of poor Flash. About the only complaint that I had was that the fighting did seem deliberatly slower than in the past. Not bad, but just strange, as I have always thought of Mortal Kombat as a fast fighter.
We also got to see some of the characters that will be in the game. We now can confirm that Superman, Batman, Flash, Catwoman, Sub Zero, Scorpion, Sonya Blade, and what appeared to be Cabal maybe. I lost track of all the characters in the MK universe after the third one. Look for MK vs DC on December 15th.
We all knew a new Mortal Kombat game was coming when Midway put up a countdown, however, I doubt any of us expected the direction the Mortal Kombat series was going to take. Midway is set to release Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe this fall on PS3 and Xbox 360. The game is obviously the 10-years-too-late answer to Marvel vs. Capcom. Two DC writers are on-board, but we’ll probably still get a ridiculous story. You can probably guess who will likely be on the character roster, but Batman, Superman, Sub-Zero, and Scorpion are the only ones revealed thus far. The game will also feature interactive environments to keep things interesting. However, there is some bad news.
