On the Steam gaming download service, Michel Ancel’s excellent Beyond Good and Evil is a mere $4.99 this weekend only. This is a great opportunity for those who’ve not yet had a chance to play through the game.
This is valid for customers in North America only, so regrets to those in other regions. Though, you have other things to be pleased with that make this look stupid by comparison, such as good beer and people who can properly pronounce the name of Nintendo of America’s president.

At the Ubidays, the Ubisoft event in France, Yves Guillemot took the stage to confirm not only that the rumored Beyond Good and Evil sequel was happening, but that they had a teaser trailer for the event. The trailer above is game engine footage, so we are getting a good approximation of what the game will look like when it comes out. No platform was announced, or a release date, but I hope that Ubisoft has learned from past mistakes and releases this outside of any other competition.
Anyone that has taken the time to play through Michel Ancel’s Beyond Good and Evil, understands that a lot was left unfinished at the end of the game. Originally planned as a trilogy, the first game had to go up against another Ubisoft property, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, and got railroaded at the register.
After looking at the sales data for the game, Ubisoft decided to put the game to sleep and forget about the other two games, regardless of fan outcry, or critical praise.
Now five years after its release, word from Ancel is that he has been working on the second part of the game for a while now, and that he is hopeful that Ubisoft will green light the project soon. The story is suppose to follow the continuity of the first game, and should have most of the gameplay mechanics of the first game, with some refinement.
No word from Ubisoft on this, but it would be great timing, considering the game recently came to Steam for a mere pittance of a price ($8.99). All I can say is that I hope all this comes to fruition, because it is one of the best games I have ever played, with a well though out story and compelling characters. Ubisoft, make it happen already.

A somewhat gentle interview in the latest Nintendo Power magazine with legendary game designer Michel Ancel, best known for his creation Rayman, has an interesting number of questions devoted to the game Beyond Good & Evil. While the introduction points out that Ancel’s current project is secret, and the interviewer refers to BG&E and its concepts in the past tense, Ancel speaks of the concepts and the protagonist in tenses that seem to imply that, at the very least, he has not abandoned the idea of continuing the story.
Yes, this is barely news. It’s notable to those of us who played and loved Beyond Good & Evil though, because we’ve been waiting for the trilogy to continue since its first episode’s 2003 debut, and we’re still not ready to abandon hope that the series will continue despite its poor sales.
