LEGO Batman Happy Meal toys contain LEGO Batman codes

    By Joe Fourhman | September 24, 2008

There’s something special in your McDonald’s LEGO Batman Happy Meal: cheat codes! There are eight toys in the set and each one contains a stamped code on the bottom that unlocks something inside the game. LEGO Robin is happily gesturing to the undercarriage of LEGO Penguin’s sub. That little indented box between the wheels is where you’ll find the code.

I only have two of the toys, so I can only vouch for those, but people online have already sussed out all eight codes and posted alleged lists of the complete cheatiness. But get this, it looks like some toys may come stamped with different codes, meaning more than eight potential free unlockables.

From what I’ve seen, it’s nothing that you can’t unlock on your own. Using the Happy Meal codes simply saves you a ton of in-game currency. For the spoiler-sheepish, I’ll put the codes after the jump. And then it’s back to LEGO Batman, where I just used to create-a-fig machine to make a logo-less Green Lantern.

One week until LEGO Batman… Hush revealed

    By Joe Fourhman | September 18, 2008

Just to prove that LEGO Batman won’t be entirely about characters created before you were born… here’s Hush. A relative babe to the Bat-comics, Hush comes from a much-lauded 2002-2003 story arc that featured just about every player in the canon. Hush has no super-powers, which will likely land him in the coveted LEGO sub-category of chump-with-gun. Sort of like a lot of the Bat-villains, actually.

LEGO Batman arrives on every platform except your refrigerator next Tuesday.

Check out the gallery of new screenshots after the jump. Don’t miss Joker in his “I Shot Barbara Gordon” leisure wear!

Batman: Arkham Asylum just raised expectations to the stratosphere

    By Joe Fourhman | September 13, 2008

Seriously, where did this game come from? Seems like we’ve only known about it for a week and already it looks completely incredible. Please please please let this one have the gameplay to back it up. What do we have to do to get a Batman game that plays like Metal Gear? From the very brief press release:

Published by Eidos Interactive and developed by Rocksteady Studios, Batman: Arkham Asylum boasts an original story featuring iconic DC Comics’ characters Batman, The Joker and Killer Croc amongst others - all completely revisioned by WildStorm.

I don’t get what they mean by WildStorm “revisioning” the characters. WildStorm is owned by DC, and these character designs look pretty classic to me. I mean, there’s Joker in his normal purple suit. It’s not like this is coming out of Heath Ledger movie continuity, or Batman Beyond, or anything like that.

Oh, and there better be more than “Batman, The Joker and Killer Croc” in this game.

Upon entering Arkham Asylum, The Joker greets Batman over a loudspeaker and Batman has no choice but to enter into what can only be an ambush. Batman: Arkham Asylum features brutal combat, giant sized boss battles and deadly experiments all within the notorious island prison.

When did Arkham become an “island prison”? Guess that’s the big revision at work.

Eidos formally announced Batman: Arkham Asylum back in mid-August, coming to PS3, Xbox 360 and PC sometime in 2009.

Great screenshots after the jump. Live up to it, Eidos/Rocksteady.

Catch our own George Walker on Wiire podcast 108.

    By Stephen Munn | August 8, 2008

George’s recent hit article won him a slot on the latest episode of The Wiire podcast, that would be number 108. Head on over and have a listen, or subscribe in the iTunes store, because it’s a great show. While you’re at it, why not pick up episode 106, which starred yours truly?

George Walker from Aeropause.com joins a full panel for one of the longest episodes ever! Chris can’t stop watching The Dark Knight, Podcast #107 gets nearly 200 comments in just one week, and in actual gaming news, special guest George Walker shares his thoughts on Nintendo and the ‘hardcore market’. On top of that, the panel discusses GTA for DS and possibly Wii, whether or not 2D games should make a revival, and what everyone thinks of Red Steel 2. Don’t miss this jam-packed episode!

Personally, I had to turn it off because it features Dark Knight spoilers, so you’ve been warned. I’ll have to keep it in my queue until I see that film.

    DC Universe Unveiled

    By Joe Haygood | July 15, 2008

So we finally got a look at DC Universe and it looks pretty good.  Obviously, you don’t get to play as the great DC characters, but you will get to play alongside them in battle.   They mentioned scenarios like working with Batman to solve a crime, or joining with Lex Luthor to battle Superman.  The ideas are endless, but they did not explain how the mechanics of this would work.  Is it instanced for groups of players, or open to the entire server population.  No release date was set.  Also, I was disheartened when I watched this, as I felt that using this premise but in a Marvel setting, could of been great.  *sniff, oh well, at least it is looking good for one of the comic universes out there.

Little Miss Gamer: The Bad Game

    By Shane | July 15, 2008

This month’s Little Miss Gamer theme has Z pondering over ‘The Bad Game’ with focus on Atari’s E.T as one of those games everyone hated growing up, but never really gave a halfhearted chance. Her well crafted retro review and reflection on games that suck ends with an ambitious attempt to play Harry Potter for the 360. Does Potter fit that genre?

Mortal Kombat vs. DC Gameplay Trailer

    By Joe Haygood | July 12, 2008

So Midway has finally released some gameplay footage for their upcoming fighting game, Mortal Kombat vs. DC, and I have to say that I am impressed. The fighting looks good, especially the fact that you can now continue to fight while dropping between levels. The effects look good, and fatalaties are definitely in, as well can guess from the fate of poor Flash. About the only complaint that I had was that the fighting did seem deliberatly slower than in the past. Not bad, but just strange, as I have always thought of Mortal Kombat as a fast fighter.

We also got to see some of the characters that will be in the game.  We now can confirm that Superman, Batman, Flash, Catwoman, Sub Zero, Scorpion, Sonya Blade, and what appeared to be Cabal maybe.  I lost track of all the characters in the MK universe after the third one.  Look for MK vs DC on December 15th.

Midway unveils Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe

    By Matthew Kellar | April 18, 2008

We all knew a new Mortal Kombat game was coming when Midway put up a countdown, however, I doubt any of us expected the direction the Mortal Kombat series was going to take. Midway is set to release Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe this fall on PS3 and Xbox 360. The game is obviously the 10-years-too-late answer to Marvel vs. Capcom. Two DC writers are on-board, but we’ll probably still get a ridiculous story. You can probably guess who will likely be on the character roster, but Batman, Superman, Sub-Zero, and Scorpion are the only ones revealed thus far. The game will also feature interactive environments to keep things interesting. However, there is some bad news.
