Ones to Watch on PS3 and PSP for November 2008

    By Paul Munn | November 2, 2008

The PlayStation 3 gets just a few exclusive games this month amidst a flood of cross-platform titles, but those exclusives are all excellent titles on the system. The headliner this month is definitely going to be Resistance 2 (IGN: “Incredible” 9.5) with a strong single-player, separate 8-man co-op, and a dizzying 60-person online competitive multiplayer option. Also coming this month is something pretty rare on the PS3 these days, an RPG in the form of the Sega-published Valkyria Chronicles (IGN: “Outstanding” 9.0). Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm (IGN: “Impressive” 8.4) is another exclusive. All three of these are headed our way on November 4th, which is also Election Day in the United States.

Late-launchers on the console this month include Alone in the Dark: Inferno, which is a somewhat revised and tweaked verison of the same game that arrived on other platforms a few months ago and Age of Booty hits the PSN a month after launching on Xbox Live Arcade. Age of Booty was to get Trophies patched in after and October release but it’s not known if the delay allowed the developer to add Trophies in for this month’s debut.

The BioShock Challenge Rooms are slated to hit the PS3 on November 20th for an unknown price. I don’t believe these are headed to the Xbox 360 or PC versions of the game.

A number of other cross-platform titles this month are showing up with Trophy support.

AC/DC Rock Band Pack Hitting Walmart/Sam’s Club Shelves This Weekend

    By Joe Haygood | October 31, 2008

Well, this is the weekend when we are all suppose to run out blindly to our closest Walmart or Sam’s Club and get our copy of the AC/DC Rock Band pack for the everyday low price of $39.98.  Looking at that price and comparing it to what I paid for Rock Band 2, I have to assume that I am getting a ton of AC/DC content.

Except you are not.  You are getting a grand total of 18 tracks of AC/DC rock.  So lets do some math here.  I get 18 tracks in Rock Band AC/DC for $40, but I get 85 tracks in Rock Band 2 for $60.  Not to mention that the 20 free tracks for Rock Band 2 are ready for download next Tuesday, bringing the actual total of songs for that $60 up to 105 tracks.

Aeropodcast #52.5: Give It Up For the Mixmaster

    By Joe Haygood | October 9, 2008

Okay, I am not sure how he did it, considering he did not even have an outline to work off of, but Stephen managed to salvage what we could give him into a podcast this week.  Thank you, Stephen, for going above and beyond the call of podcast mixing duty for this podcast.

Okay, we had a discussion over whether it is relevant for game companies, specifically Nintendo in this case to re-release a game title as new, when it has already come out on a previous system.  Pikmin 2 and Chibi-Robo are two of the games that are planned for the new “Playable on Wii” label.  The games will feature new controls, but other than that, they sound to be faithful recreations of the original Gamecube games.

We had another review this week as well from DrSuper23 and some tantalizing news items, including the Xbox 360 selling more units in Japan than the PS3?  The apocalypse ensues.

AC/DC Stand Alone Track Pack Coming to Rock Band 2 via Walmart

    By Joe Haygood | September 30, 2008

MTV Games and Harmonix have announced the November release of a new AC/DC Live stand-alone track pack for the PS3 and 360.  The game will ship as a full playable game, but can be used with Rock Band and Rock Band 2.  The cost of the pack will be $29.95 for PS2 and $39.98 for 360 and PS3.  The track pack will be available worldwide.

While this news in and of itself is strange, the other shoe dropped when it was found out that this track pack is exclusive to Walmart only.  That’s right boys and girls, you are only getting your AC/DC if you walk into the bastion of discount savings, Walmart.  The retail chain is also going to set up temporary kiosks in Los Angeles and Manhattan, two locations where Walmart does not have any stores.

Check the jump for the full track list, which is posted over at Gamesblog.ugo.com.

    Microsoft E3 2008 Press Event

    By Joe Haygood | July 14, 2008

The show just started with the new spokesman of the company, Dave McKitrich, I think.  I did not get the name down fast enough.

We start with a Fallout 3 skit.  Straight of of a 1950’s instructional video, we have a commercial for a space in the Vaults, common to Fallout 3.  Todd Howard just came out from Bethesda.  He said that a new trailer should be out in a couple of hours.  YAY, actual game footage.  Wow, this footage is smooth.  The enclave is still broadcasting footage.  The PIPBoy looks awesome.  You can pick up radio signals to play background music and sound.  That dude just exploded into pieces.  Very violent.  VATS looks really good, but could use some work.  Over 100 hours of gameplay.  Active combat seems to work well.  The game remembers your behaviors, just like the original game.  The enclave seems to not like you.  Mini nukes rule all.  DLC will be substantial for Fallout 3 and will be exclusive to Xbox 360 and Games for Windows.

June Takehashi (spelling is probably off), developer of Resident Evil 5 is showing off the new footage.  It is the first time a Resident Evil game is showing up on a Microsoft console.  Definitely has a Resident Evil 4 feel.  Chris is in Africa to investigate the spread of the zombie infection.  He is part of a new agency, the DFAA.  Online co-op is shown off.  The lady backing up Chris is Sheva Alomar (Speling may be off).  In co-op, you approach the game from different angles to solve puzzles it looks like.  They show Sheva shooting out a lock so Chris could continue on his journey.  The guys are being rushed to finish the demo.  Crazy chainsaw guys shows up just as they end the demo.  The game looks good.  Resident Evil will go on sale worldwide on Friday the 13th, March 2009.
