Why Can't I Pull The Trigger on a PS3

  1. Every weekend, I head to the store, and I look, evaluate and then decide to walk out without a PS3. There are a few games that I really want to play, and the thought of having the best Blu-Ray player out scores a lot of points. And of course, there is the Hasslehoff Pain pack that has my name written all over it.

But with all of that, I still have sticker shock over the $400. And I am not sure why. I paid the same price for my 360, and I spend that in about eight months on my PC, but when it comes to the PS3, I just feel it is too high.

I think part of it comes from me knowing it will be a secondary console in my house, used for more Blu-Ray duty than games. I mean, I was at Circuit City today, and I could of got a PS3 for 10% off, making it $349, but I froze up and walked out.

I also get the price cut worries, like as soon as I buy it, Sony will come to their senses and cut the price. Guess I will continue to try and talk my brain into being impulsive someday.

I think everyone is expecting a price cut pretty soon, so if you're this unsure about the PS3 I'd wait and see. The PS3 has finally grown some legs with an improving online structure and library of games. Although the PSN is still pretty far behind Xbox Live, I find it's worth it just for the single player exclusives. 2009 should be a great year to buy the system considering the expected blockbuster titles like Killzone 2, Heavy Rain, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, God of War 3, a Ratchet & Clank Future sequel, and more. I can understand your apprehension, Joe, but if you consider yourself a hardcore gamer, you're going to want to pick up a PS3 (and an ass load of games) pretty soon. Just imagine if Sony had scrapped Home to add more features that make Xbox Live so great.

Just buy it and get it over with already! No one likes spending alot of money, but once you have it you'll feel much better about it! Think of the look on the Hoff's face when you smash him through a window.....

  4. You haven't bought it because there's nothing on it that you need to live.

At least nothing that's worth the steep price of admission, just yet.

  5. I paid the price and haven't looked back. I enjoy it regularly for BluRay movies and the games I have, which are mostly PS3 exclusive: Resistance, LBP, MGS4, R&C, Drake, etc.

At the time the PS3 was the same price as a Xbox360 (w/ HDMI output, HDD, etc) so the PS3 was a better buy, IMHO.

I say wait for the price drop. There was some article I think this week with a rumor that a price drop is coming in two or three months. If you have gone this long without one, I think you can go a little longer.

Love to play with my Wii.
