I also agree, especially with Black Ops. Didn't play multiplayer (which I guess makes a whole lot of difference for many people) but I found the single player to be unsatisfactory. Though I did get a kick out of Medal Of Honor singleplayer, too bad it was so short (and easy, to be honest, but I loved the story, even if it wasn't all crazy plot stuff like CoD).
Now Battlefield 3, that looks to be all kinds of awesome, just as long as DICE doesn't go insane on the singleplayer story (Bad Company 1/2 singleplayer didn't do it for me, ugh, I'd rather forget about that, sorry to say for those who liked it, it just wasn't my thing). The destructible environments, using the Frostbite Engine, are what seal the deal for me, something CoD doesn't do.
One FPS game I really liked (when it was released) was Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. Sure it was buggy as hell, but you can probably see the theme I kind of like in my shooters. Not quite as good as the first Operation Flashpoint, but the graphics were great at least.
