  1. Ok my 360 has finally bit the dust. I bought it almost 3 years ago so it's probably close to being a 1st generation box. I'm getting the flashing 3 red rings of deathly death and I'm pretty sure my warranty is long gone.

I of course still have all my parts, hard drive, controllers, tons of games and a Gold live subscription. So I'm debating whether to get a cheap $200 arcade box just to have a new box or get a PS3 and find someone who could fix the 360 if it's even possible to get fixed?

Has anyone out there sent their 360 to Microsoft to get fixed after their warranty was toast?

  2. I would get a ticket from them anyways. They are normally good about fixing it, if it is even close to the warranty period. I would try talking to a supervisor in tech suppot and see if they can get it sorted out. I know a couple of people that had launch boxes that have gotten them fixed out of warranty. It just takes talking to the right persons.

As for a PS3, it is not a bad idea. I would say it is easier to go from the PS3 to a 360, than the other way around. When you have a PS3 and go to a 360, you gain a lot in the way of online connectivity, where you lose more going from a 360 to PS3. The community is not an tight in the integration department as on the 360. Looking at the games, it will depend on what you are into. If all your favorites are multiplat, then you are good to go.

You could always just invest in a solid gaming computer and buy games via Steam. Just throwing that out there.

  3. Yeah thanks it doesn't hurt to try.

There are a lot of games on the PS3 that I really want to try like Uncharted, LBP and Metal Gear etc...So If I can successfully get the 360 off for repairs, I will hit the PS3 world :)

Of course you had to squeeze in a tidbit of PC in there LOL. See I once had a hot gaming rig with Steam but the PC's technology ran out of "steam" before I had the time to get 'er home! ;)

    I kid...

Have you already registered your console? If not, I think your warranty will be extended due to the RRoD controversy. My regular warranty was long gone, but the RRoD situation had extended for three years. Don't rule out a PS3 completely, though. I do enjoy my 360 more overall, but you're right, it still has a big library of great games.
