IGN's Mark Bozon claims IGN will be sitting down to chat with series mastermind Koji Igarashi at the E3 event this week to talk Castlevania Judgment. In advance of that, IGN sent a list of questions to be translated for the man. Due to some pretty strict limits on what he could say, there's not a whole lot in the interview worth mentioning, save for the confirmation that fighting in the game will not be face-to-face in a SoulCalibur sense, but rather open and free, more like Power Stone.

I've hear of Power Stone, but I haven't played it. The idea here is that instead of being locked to your opponent, you're both roaming free in an area and you beat each other up. The appeal of this to me is that the fights will play out more like a Castlevania boss battle than a traditional fighter might. I'll ignore the wrenching in my gut, because it's entirely from the fact that I'm stuck in Curse of Darkness right now, unable to progress past either of the two bosses I can currently access.

The other interesting thing in the interview is that Iga seems to think it's not generally known that players will be able to unlock Shanoa, protagonist of the upcoming DS game, Order of Ecclesia, by linking those two titles together. I'm not sure why IGN thought it was Maria being unlocked there, in fact. Nintendo Power broke that in the recent reveal of the game. Don't they read Nintendo Power?!

Finally, there is mention that members of the Dewy's Adventure team at Konami are part of the Judgment team. Dewy's Adventure was one of the better looking games on Wii, though admittedly not boundary-shattering like Super Mario Galaxy. This explains a lot of the game's somewhat "glowy" current look to me.

You can get some information about how the game controlled in IGN's hands-on, right here. The game they played was reportedly very early, with lots of pre-alpha type issues. Let's hope they iron all those out for release this fall.

So Midway has finally released some gameplay footage for their upcoming fighting game, Mortal Kombat vs. DC, and I have to say that I am impressed. The fighting looks good, especially the fact that you can now continue to fight while dropping between levels. The effects look good, and fatalaties are definitely in, as well can guess from the fate of poor Flash. About the only complaint that I had was that the fighting did seem deliberatly slower than in the past. Not bad, but just strange, as I have always thought of Mortal Kombat as a fast fighter.

We also got to see some of the characters that will be in the game. We now can confirm that Superman, Batman, Flash, Catwoman, Sub Zero, Scorpion, Sonya Blade, and what appeared to be Cabal maybe. I lost track of all the characters in the MK universe after the third one. Look for MK vs DC on December 15th.

Stephen on "Castlevania: Judgment screens look very manga"

[gallery]

Here are the first batch of actual screens from Castlevania: Judgment on Wii. It's exciting to see Dracula designed in a way so consistent with Ayami Kojima's concept art for Symphony of the Night. I also find it interesting that the characters are so clearly put together in a manga style. You're not seeing the kind of painful realism you get in the character models of SoulCalibur 4. Instead, it's almost like it's meant to look more like a painting, which could be very nice. Of course, all of that could mean nothing once I see how the game plays, and I'm telling you right now that I will buy it, because it's Castlevania. The four characters shown are Simon (who looks a bit more like Hector from Curse of Darkness than Simon Belmont), Maria Renard (the young version from Rondo of Blood), Dracula, and Alucard.

Overall, I like the designs. I really am looking forward to seeing the game in action at E3. Did I mention it's supposed to be at E3? It is.
