When the Xbox Live originals program was started, Halo was right there, but most complained about the price point. Why should people pay $15 for a game that is not updated in any way when you can go to the local Gamestop and buy it for $5-10.
Well, while the originals program is not cutting its prices overall, it is listening to its fanbase and has temporarily cut the price of Halo: Combat Evolved to 600 MS Points or $7.50, a savings of 50%. If you have been under a rock, or disavowed the first Xbox console, now is your chance to try a good shooter that is tuned and adjusted specifically for consoles. It also give you some ideas of how the Halo series got started if you came to the party late.
Also, another rumor going around (again) is that achievements will actually be coming to Xbox Live originals, which might suggest that sales of Xbox Orignals are slow and that achievements might be the way to boost those numbers. Remeber, people will do a lot of stupid things, like play Open Season, to get achievements. I am not buying into this one as of yet, as the evidence supporting it is thin at best.
It’s hard to believe it’s been more than 20 years now since the first Castlevania game came out. As I continue to struggle in the final battle of Order of Ecclesia, I think about all the times I’ve faced off against the various supervillains of Castlevania over the years. My collection of games is nearly complete now, and I’ve received word that my review copy of Judgment is on its way at last, so it shouldn’t be too much longer before I’ve got the whole library of North American releases in the Castlevania franchise. Once that happens, will I want to play them all through once again, start to finish? Should I play them in chronological order? There’s an idea.
Let’s have a look at where the franchise has been over the years as I get ready to tear into a game that could provide an excellent retrospective of some of its most important characters.
As we’ve crested the 7th birthday of the Xbox, and the 3rd birthday of the Xbox360, it’s time for a retrospective on how Microsoft has changed the face of gaming and what will be some of the fallout for the Next Next Generation. Readily burned into our minds are the obvious things like the Red Ring Of Death, and XboxLive, but that’s only scratching the surface. Let’s pull back the outer layer and take a look at all of the little things that has helped advance the pastime of video gaming.
In this first part, we’re going to disassemble the Xbox and its impact on console video gaming.
How exactly does one go about figuring out which is the best Dance Dance Revolution game to buy? Review scores are not a good idea, because they’re all relative. Maybe the first DDR reviewed the best, but Ultramix 3 is actually better… just not better enough to warrant a better score years later. Let me back up a little, because I’m confusing myself.
I want to buy a Dance Dance Revolution game. I’ve got a Wii and a 60GB PS3. That means I can play any of the DDR games for PS1, PS2, Gamecube, or Wii. There are none for PS3. Knowing little about any of these games, I’m having trouble figuring out what’s my best course of action here.
If anyone can offer me any input on this, I’d love to hear it. Look below for aggregate scores and releases. Keep in mind I can’t get the Xbox or 360 versions, I don’t have those platforms. Everything else is fair game.
Godfree has just let us know that they will be interviewing Steve Swasey, the Vice President of Corporate Communications from Netflix today at 21:29 regarding the fall update dashboard partnership.
It seems there are rumors starting rumors these days. According to allaboutiphone.net, Bungie has given all its employees iPhones. Any normal person would think that this means Bungie is trying to keep employees connected and up to date with the latest technology, but if you are a gamer then you obviously think that this means iHalo is coming in the near future. There has been no confirmation that Bungie has given its staff iPhones, but since they are no longer under complete control by Microsoft it would let then pursue another platform, and I don’t think Microsoft would mind. Getting more exposure for their hallmark franchise can never be a bad thing. Since I own an iPhone I would definitely be interested in a Halo game for the Jesus phone. The big question is whether or not it will be a FPS, which could be tough with no buttons, or if they have something completely different planned. On the other hand these rumors could be complete BS….let’s all hope their not!

I’ve always thought that Max Payne would make a good movie. However, I don’t understand the wing creature and what it has to do with the Max Payne universe. Is he fighting a wing creature or is it just in his head?

Today marks the transition for two high profile entities: Bill Gates, and Microsoft. Bill Gates will leave the Microsoft campus today for the last time as a full-time employee. He is moving on, with the noble goal of bringing vaccines to third world countries, via the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Bill is not totally gone, as he is still the Chairman of the company, and he will still put in about a day’s worth of work each week from home, but it will be strange to think about a Microsoft that will not have Bill Gates there day to day.
This is a man that has dedicated himself to a company, and an industry for most of his life, going back to the age of 15. There have been successes along the way, like Windows, Office and a little side project called the Xbox. There have also been some failures, like favorite whipping boy Microsoft Bob, Windows Millenium, and for some Vista might even be in that category. But one thing is for certain, there will be a void at Microsoft. This is not a knock against all the talented people at Microsoft, but Bill Gates has become an icon, almost bigger in identity than Microsoft, and his departure leaves the company looking for someone to replace that space. Steve Ballmer is a great guy and can be larger than life, but he will never be Bill Gates, because he is not a technical guy, a geek shall we say. Microsoft will go on, and will continue to make billions, but it will just seem to have less of a public face, without Bill at the helm.
Good luck Bill, and enjoy the extra Bridge games. Maybe I will run into you some time and actually learn how to play the game.
We all like to be able to shed some light on games we feel are classics but didn’t get the attention they deserved. Sometimes those games become cult classics, and like the Beyond Good & Evil sequel recently announced, the franchise gets a second chance because of word-of-mouth popularity and critical acclaim even if the original title sold poorly.
Brad Gallaway over at GameCritics.com has assembled a top ten list that I haven’t seen all that often — a top ten list of Xbox titles that does not include any cross-platform games. For a system that went toe-to-toe with the sales juggernaut that was the PS2 the titles listed really show a lot of quality work was done on the Xbox in the face of Sony’s dominance of that generation.
Maybe some of these are playable on a hard-drive equipped Xbox 360, or maybe you’re among the few who have clung to your Xbox to save your pennies until Microsoft finally fixes its red ring of death problem on their flagship console. Either way, give the list a look and let us know which ones you’ve played. You just might find something you always wanted to hunt down in the bargain bin but just keep forgetting to.
