One of the first stops at E for All after Rock Band was the Target Pavilion, where they had about 15 arcade booths, all holding multiplayer matches of Guitar Hero 3 on the 360. We also got to try out the Wii version of the game later in the day, to compare the two versions.
Looks like those attending this year’s E3 weren’t the only ones curious about how the show went. The ESA sent out surveys to all attendees, us included here at Aeropause. The questions ran along the line of if we were satisfied with the show, where it should be located next year (San Diego, Los Angeles, Laguna Beach were some of the locations offered), was the hangar too far and would we attend again next year (absolutely).
I for one was happy to see something so soon, because it lets me know that they understand that there were some good things and some bad things about this year’s E3. It lets me know that they are committed to improving on the changes that they made this year. I just hope they take my suggestion and put the events just a tad bit closer and put the show floor a lot closer.

Nintendo did their best at this year’s E3 to pretend that there is no 2008. Aside from mentions of games on Wii Ware and Mario Kart Wii, we didn’t see anything for 2008 at all. So what was missing? Let’s have a look and see what’s around to find about Animal Crossing, Disaster: Day of Crisis, Project HAMMER, and more. Not much more, but more.

Here’s our roundtable covering the big three press conferences we’ve seen so far. Myself, Kat, George, Stephen, and Joe have all dug in to comment on what we thought went well and not-so-well for Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony.
Well, E3 is gone, leaving Santa Monica, CA as a shell of its former self. The din of the video games has silenced and now, as we have taken several days to digest the amount of data that crossed our eyes, there are some thoughts that need to be said about the show. So here are some notes and a final wrap on E3 2007.

I may have made too much of Retro Studios’ website going down for over a month recently. Of course, hindsight is always 20/20, as the site re-emerged unchanged, despite my strong belief we would see something… anything when it came back up.
That said, here I am again, reporting to you that just after E3’s big showings of Metroid Prime 3 and Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, both the official website for Metroid and its counterpart for Zelda are down for the count. It’s worth noting that Prime 3 was not on the official Metroid site yet earlier today, but Phantom Hourglass had some small presence on the Zelda Universe site.
Before you start asking me why I look at these websites every day, keep in mind… I’m a professional. It’s my job to look for patterns and then invent them when publishers are unfortunate enough to have a server crash.
Nonetheless, both titles recently received release dates within the next few months, Metroid’s being in August and Zelda’s in October. Now there is more than enough information and content to warrant real presences on the official websites. Don’t bother staying tuned, I’ve got nothing better to do. Some people wait in line for console launches, this is my raison d’?
Bizzare Creations had a nice plasma screen all set up for us to play the latest build of Project Gotham Racing 4. The first thing that I noticed when the game started was the weather effects. Weather will play a prominent role for drivers in this game. Rain comes down and streaks over the car and splatters the screen. The streets get a slick glow from the light reflecting off the wet roadway. The time that Bizzare Creations has put into these weather effects is really paying off.
Car selection is just as great as it has been in the past with a few more classic cars added to the mix. And to all the Midnight Club and Test Drive Unlimited fans, Project Gotham finally has motorcycles. They are not considered the main focus of the game, but they had heard so many complaints about not having motorcycles that it was a no brainer to add them to the game.
The game keeps the focus of the game from last year, but adds a few more cities from what I understood. Also expect another collection of eclectic music that will play in the background. And as a random note, there is a decent damage model represented on the cars as you run into things. It does not completely destroy the car, but it does damage the aerodynamics of the vehicle.
Project Gotham Racing 4 comes to a store near you this Fall.
The guys from Crytek were showing off their new pride and joy, Crysis, at E3. The game is suppose to come out mid September and has come a long way since I witnessed it at CES in January. One thing that surprised me was that the game is a Games for Windows labeled game, but no mention is made if it is a Live enabled game. I have heard that it is, but nothing solid had told me that yet and the Crytek guys were not commenting on it.
Bethesda Softworks was nice enough to send over some photos from the game Fallout 3. The first two may not be new, but I believe the third was one that they were circulating around E3. While people seem to be worried about this game turning into an Oblivion mod, rest assured knowing that this game will not be an Oblivion type game. Check out some of the pictures before to see how the game is coming along.
Stranglehold has been a big property for Midway that they have been touting since late 2005. The new property brings together the game design of Midway, the directorial talents of John Woo and the acting of Chow Yun Fat to create a Hong Kong action movie experience on the PC, 360 and PS3 starting in August. The Midway guys were nice enough to invite us in to check out their new game as it is nearing release.
