Indy developer Eurocenter, which has developed several online games for the iPhone and iPod touch has released Adrenaline Golf Online, with full support for the advanced iPhone 3GS graphic extensions like the OpenGL shader effects. Eurocenter is the first to utilize the new technology on the 3Gs (finally!) and has done so with a game that mixes mini golf with pool. This is not to say they didn’t have issues working with OpenGL – they had to completely rewrite the engine from the ground up to work on the 3GS, and have two different 3D engines to work on the older models.

The best feature in this new title is the online multiplayer feature where you can collect stars and send bonuses to other players much like in Mario Kart. Additionally players can compete in 72 completely different courses.

The water, shadows and other shader effects look pretty cool from the video but I can’t wait to see other developers do something a bit more compelling than Golf, not to be dissin’ Golf or Eurocenter’s effort put forth in Adrenaline.

Code Monkeys on Shout! Factory

Read on for Season 1 details.

Get ready to enter the insane world of GameAvision’s top employees: slacker Dave and his high-strung best friend Jerry. Whether it’s rescuing fellow GameAvision employees from Ninjas in Japan or creating a video game out of Spielberg’s latest movie, E.T., or navigating a wild adventurous weekend in Vegas at the annual video game convention, the irreverent, over-the-top humor and quirky storylines from the cult animated TV series Code Monkeys is guaranteed to make you guffaw with laughter.

On August 5, 2008, Shout! Factory, in association with G4 TV and MonkeyWrangler Productions, will release Code Monkeys: Season One on DVD. An awesome celebration and biting parody of video games, technology and pop culture from writer-director-producer Adam de la Peña, Season One of Code Monkeys features special guest voice appearances from technology and gaming industry icons such as Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, Atari founder Nolan Bushnell, video game creators John Romero and Lorne Lanning, as well as the late Dungeons & Dragons creator Gary Gygax, just to name a few. Loaded with bonus materials that include Original GameAvision Games, Code Monkeys Daily Pranks, “Sir Eats-A-Lot” Gaming Tips from G4 TV’s Kristin Holt and much more, this 2-DVD set is priced to own at $19.99 SRP. No one and nothing is beyond ridicule when the new TV season of Code Monkeys premieres June 1 at 7 pm ET/PT, only on G4.

Set in the 1980s at the dawn of the home computer era, Code Monkeys revolves around the fictional video game company GameAvision and its two star programmers, Dave and Jerry. Their lives are turned upside down when Bob Larrity, a crazed Texas businessman who knows nothing about video games except that they “sell good”, purchases GameAvision. Together, the two best bud slackers are destined for dysfunctional greatness.

Bonus Features Include:

Code Monkeys Daily Pranks

Original “Barfight” and “Crosswalk” Promos

“Sir Eats-A-Lot” Gaming Tips From G4’s Kristin Holt

Original GameAvision Games –“Two Card Monty” and “Hangman”

Downloadable Wallpapers

So we’re giving you the chance to cover this game and enhance your journalism resume.

We want to give this rare opportunity to a enthusiastic game journalist who lives in the San Francisco area to attend the “Pure Multiplayer Event and Sneak Preview” in San Francisco – which is coming out on the Xbox 360, PC and PS3.

The event is hosted by Disney Interactive Studios and they will unveil the multiplayer aspects, new features and tracks for the game which will all take place in a cool set decorated like the game itself. You will have the opportunity to try the game hands-on while you’re spoon-fed free food and drinks by hovering pixies with translucent wings, plus receive an early review build of the game in mid-September for review on none other than Aeropause.

All you need to do is drop us a line at (tips AT aeropause DOT com) and tell us why you want to cover this event, along with 3 writing samples game-related or not. It’s that easy.

We look forward to reading your submissions and good luck!

That’s what Mike Capps, President of Epic Games thinks will be the minimum year we see a new Playstation, Xbox or Wii even up to 2018 – given the typical 5-6 year shelf life of a console. Brian Farrell, CEO of THQ also thinks it will be another 7 years until we see a new system because of the time it takes to fully utilize the Xbox 360, Wii and PS3.

So what are the clues that the next consoles are under development? Nintendo President Satoru Iwata admits the company is working on the next Wii but won’t admit to anything concrete at this time.

“We are always preparing for the next hardware,” Iwata says. “We are under development. … But the hardware is a kind of box that consumers reluctantly buy in order to play our games.”

“Every hardware needs some revolutionary features,” Iwata says. “This time around, it happened to be we had a revolutionary user interface. Will it be the same for the next generation? I really can’t tell.

Nvidia’s Larrabee GPU and Advanced Micro Devices (ATI) are actively trying to win over the three console makers to buy their next generation chips as we speak, and Epic’s Unreal Engine 4 is under development for future games.
