I am a doctoral Psychology student at Marshall University. I have an unhealthy obsession with videogames and I make an attempt to filter this into content for the wonderful readers here at Aeropause. I live in West Virginia and I spend most of my time playing games, bowling, and golfing with fellow graduate students. I enjoy science fiction novels, comics, and film in addition to videogames. I am not a cylon.
Games Radar has an amusing piece detailing the 25 of the things non-gamers do when presented with a videogame to annoy seasoned veteran gamers.
According to an article over at Joystiq, one hardcore Nintendo franchise deftly eluded being revealed at Nintendo’s puppy and air-drum filled press conference the other day. The following words were uttered by none other than Shigeru Miyamoto (or at least his translator): “We’re making Pikmin.”
The Sony conference started with the type of hyperbole we have come to expect from the company. However, whenever the game were finally brought out, there was a lot to get excited about. This was, by and large, the best press conference of the show.
Nintendo’s press conference is over and many a gamer probably feel a little underwhelmed at this point. Many predictable announcements were made and some surprises were delivered, but the hardcore among us might find their …
Nintendo has revealed a strange new intellectual property for the Nintendo Wii. The game is titled “Captain Rainbow” and features 2.5d fighting mechanics similar to what is found in the Viewtiful Joe series. In addition there are exploration segments that take place on an island populated by obscure Nintendo characters such as Birdo.
Rock Band 2 is a lot closer than one might think, yet information on what the game will offer has been somewhat inconclusive. Luckily, a recent press release from Electronic Arts and Harmonix has cleared up some ambiguity while continuing to leave room for some uncertainty. Certainly, all will be revealed at next week’s E3, but for now we will attempt to divulge what we know so far.
The Onion has given us a quite humorous look at the inner workings of Liberty City.
If you’re one of the gamers that is unsatisfied with the paltry selection of upcoming Guitar Hero games such as: Guitar Hero: World Tour, Guitar Hero: On Tour, and Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, you are in luck. Activision has revealed their intention to release Guitar Hero: Metallica in fiscal ‘09.
As most of you have probably heard. Wii Fit had the audacity to call a young girl “fat.” While most gamers are rushing to Nintendo’s defense, I’ve decided it would make for a healthy discussion to play the devil’s advocate on this one. In this case, as in many others, the devil would be anyone with something negative to say about our favored medium.
It appears that Aerosmith songs will be appearing exclusively in Guitar Hero games – at least for now. This isn’t at all surprising with the upcoming release of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, but it is definitely a worrisome occurrence. We may be seeing the beginning of an exclusivity war between Activision and EA with regard to what bands appear in Guitar Hero and Rock Band.
Gamesradar has an interesting set of interviews up to coincide the release of Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto IV. It’s a refreshing look at how many developers are simply gamers like the rest of us. It is nice to know they can still get excited about playing what the competition has to offer. Continue reading for some highlights.
An interesting multiplayer typing-based racing game recently became available on the internet. It seems an odd design choice, but it works really well.
According to Activision CEO Bobby Kotick, instruments other than guitars as well as vocals will be coming to future installments of Guitar Hero. There are also plans to include music from “local bands” depending on the region in which the game is released. He had this to say on the matter:
Today Harmonix announced that they will be releasing Judas Priest’s full album, “Screaming for Vengeance” next Tuesday. The album includes 10 tracks which can be purchased separately at 160 MS points ($1.99) or all together for 1200 MS Points (14.99). The full song list appears after the break.
Midway is set to release Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe this fall on PS3 and Xbox 360. The game is obviously the 10-years-too-late answer to Marvel vs. Capcom. Two DC writers are on-board, but we’ll probably still get a ridiculous story. You can probably guess who will likely be on the character roster, but Batman, Superman, Sub-Zero, and Scorpion are the only ones revealed thus far. The game will also feature interactive environments to keep things interesting.
Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People (SBCG4AP for short) will be arriving on Nintendo’s WiiWare service and on the PC in an episodic format. There will be “five adventure-packed actionsodes” with the first episode arriving this June. Simple controls and online connectivity are promised but few specific details are available at this point in time. The press release includes a comment from Strong Bad that gives us a basic idea of what to expect, namely, a point-and-click-em-up adventure:
