Twin sisters Mio Amakura and Mayu Amakura are visiting a childhood play spot when Mayu, who walks with a perpetual limp after a childhood accident, follows a mysterious crimson butterfly deep into the woods. Mio, concerned for her twin, follows Mayu, and the two girls are led to a lost village. While curiously empty, the village appears to have been cursed by some past event. The curse appears to be related to a failed ritual of human sacrifice involving twins, where one twin sacrifices another. This ritual was supposed to keep the Hell Gate beneath the village closed. After one of the twins designated for the sacrifice flees the village, the remaining monks attempt to complete the ritual by hanging Yae's sister, but this instead opens the Hell Gate and releases the evil spirits held inside, who flood the village and kill everyone present.

This is probably been at the GameStop DEAR GOD DON’T YOU WANT TO PREORDER SOMETHING counter for a while now… it’s a very nice Activity Book featuring a AAA lineup of E-rated games. High quality paper, lots of nice full color character art. The actual puzzles are pretty lousy and the interior cover looks [...]

Why sure, I’ll cover Babysitting Party

I’m actually kinda diggin’ these screenshots.
This is Babysitting Party, coming to Wii sometime this year. The publisher? Ubisoft, the company that has already smelled blood in the water by releasing a zillion games like Just Imagine: Paralegal and Petz Dragonz (which was retitled “Lair” for the PS3 version). But hey, this is how they’re funding [...]

Nintendo Power reveals more about Animal Crossing: City Folk; teases DLC

    By Joe Fourhman

The latest Nintendo Power has a three-pager on the upcoming Wii iteration of Animal Crossing. The initial trailer (from that famed E3 event) left me a smidge worried, because an awful lot of Animal Crossing 2008 looks like Animal Crossing 2001. But the interview with AC’s creator Katsuya Eguchi drops some cool-sounding features poised to [...]

Kratos in Hot Shots Golf looks like an April Fool’s prank, but isn’t

So we don’t get Kratos in Soulcalibur IV, but we do get him in Hot Shots Golf?! Get outta town. I will never forgive Sony for this.
According to the PlayStation.blog, he’s showing up as part of this week’s PlayStation Store update. The article does not mention how much this will cost Hot Shots Golf: Out [...]

From Boom to Bust, Fantastic to Forgotten

Leigh Alexander, gaming blogger and new hire at Gamasutra, just posted an excellent thought-provoker on her personal weblog, Sexy Videogameland. It’s something I too have often thought about: why exactly do we yearn and yearn for certain games over months - years, even - and then immediately forget about them approximately 24 hours after release [...]

    Review: Soulcalibur IV (PS3)

    By Joe Fourhman
Posted in PS3, Reviews, Sony on 11 August 2008
    Stats: and

I think one of the Soulcalibur series’ charms is that it is so inscrutably pompous. From the choose-your-own-adventure story mode to head-scratchingly super-serious dialogue like “Transcending history… and the world,” Soulcalibur is a traditional fighting game that aspires to be a JRPG and nobody ever told it that it’s not. I mean, I’m certainly not [...]
