Color Me Surprised: PS3 The Orange Box Gets A Patch.
By Paul Munn | March 21, 2008
This is either a sign that developers think the PS3 has a brighter future or a sign that the EA UK developer responsible for The Orange Box on Sony’s console wants to do right by the community, but a patch has been released for Valve’s compilation. Color me surprised. I frankly expected them to drop this one off the end of the boat after reviewers noted performance issues on the PS3.
That’s not to say this patch has definitely cured all of the problems with the games in The Orange Box on the PS3 but with at least one memory leak fix related to single player performance there is hope. I haven’t seen anyone writing anything definitive about the post-patch game so the jury’s still out, but at least I’m going to rent it in the near future, and perhaps that means the patch effort is a success. I’m guessing some other holdouts will see the news of the patch and give it a try now, and that can only generate more sales.
I’ll be keeping an eye out for a sale that matches up to the really great Target sale from a couple of weeks ago when the game was offered for just 40 bucks.
If any of our readers happens to have the PS3 version and patched it, chime in with what you’ve seen working better, please.
