    Tekken 6 Exclusive No More?

    By Richard Windsor | January 1, 2007

tekken-6.jpgFirst Sony lost VF5 and now it looks as if they might lose Tekken as an exclusive. The same source that broke the VF5 news is now reporting that Tekken 6 will make its way onto the 360 shortly after the PS3 launch. If true this is another huge blow to Sony. Exclusives are what Sony needs badly in this generation and they keep losing them one after the other, at least they have MGS4…..for now.

    1. One Console to rule them all, One Console to find them,
One Console to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.

Get your XFPS ready, fight fans!

  • Wow. Also I’ve heard rumors that Konami is forcing Kojima to make a port to the 360.

  • Yep Xaq, we’ve discussed that.

  • Nero on January 2nd, 2007 at 4:40 pm Says:

  • I dont think its going to the 360. Sony has a contract with Namco (Namco Bandai now) that they have a lifetime exclusitivity Contract for Tekken to be on Playstation brand consoles only. The contract dates back all the way to the time of the Original Playstation One.

VF5 is a crappy game anyways. Its not one of those fighting game series that I ever hear about. Tekken is big, Soul Caliber is big and Street Fighter. Thats a bout it.

If Namco does break contract and makes a port to the 360. It would be in Sonys best interest to screw Namco and drop the game for the PS3. Developers get greedy and thats why they are starting to defect. F.E.A.R. and Oblivion were Console exclusive to the 360. Developer gets greedy, Welcome to PS3.

VF5 did defect, But come on, ITS SEGA!!!! They NEED THE MONEY. Look at Sonic. Friggin Sonic TANKED! They need to make as much money as possible!

    Stupidest, most uninformed post ever.

    And, what Dragontear said.

  • Sony is losing badly to the XBox 360. They would just focus on what they do best, making crapy movies.

  • crithon on January 2nd, 2007 at 9:05 pm Says:

  • as shocking as this sounds, bear in mind Tekken 3 was on the 2001’s Gameboy advance launch. It was a terrible port of a 5 year old game, and I think that showed more of the flaws on the gameboy advance then actually benifited the system.
Not much has been said about tekken 6/next. Namco is known for rushing some game for launch(Tekken Tag). But it’s not till Tekken 2, 3, 4 and 5 which really took advantage of the hardwear.
Call me when they release Tekken 8.

  • Kyuu on January 2nd, 2007 at 11:30 pm Says:

  • Uhhh, that guy said Namco has a contract with Sony over it for their consoles to have the Tekken series.

The Gameboy Advance is not a console, I repeat it’s not a console so what he said is still correct.

  • Nero:

It’s not greed to port to 360. It’s more of a concern that the PS3’s installed user base will not satisfy their projected sales figures for the game they are developing.

By porting it to a more widely owned system, they can ensure their numbers add up.

That’s not necessarily greed, that’s simple business.

  • VF5 is THE most realistic fighting game, hands down, for you to say that it is a crappy game is ridiculous. I do like Soul Calibur and Tekken, but none of those can compare to VF5!

  • maturola on January 3rd, 2007 at 2:50 pm Says:

  • @ Nero

For your information, those contract are not BLOOD signed, they have conditions and the most common ones are Release dates, Marketing and sales Amount.

because all the delays, shortages and issues the PS3 have had, this contract is very possible to be null for this period so Namco can develop his game for anyone they want.

  • First of all, Sony would screw itself by dropping Tekken or any other namco-bandai game for that matter. The 360 has a much larger user base at this point, so Namco would benefit more with a 360 title than a ps3 title. Also, Sony and Microsoft make their money off the software, and lose on the hardware; so again why would it be on Sonys best interest to drop a large title?
Furthermore, Tekken Tag is a classic, and Tekken is a disappointment, so the argument later is typically better doesnt always hold up, though id agree Tekken 3 and 5 are the epitome of the series of their respective platforms.

Tekken advance wasnt too terrible considering it was on handheld comparable to the SNES.

Tekken was one of the few titles i was looking forward for the ps3, and if Namco releases that on the 360 I have a lot less of an incentive of dropping that kind of money on sonys beast; hopefully for Sony, Konami and SquareEnix dont follow suit.

  • This will be another big blow to Sony.

Greed isn’t even a factor. Namco already announced that in order for them to not lose money on a PS3 game, they need it to go gold. Very, very, very few games are lucky enough to go gold, and that was in the last generation. At this point, there is zero incentive for developers to stick with the PS3, other than as a hope that one day in the future there will be a payoff, that would offset all of the massive losses that they’ll incur at this time.

The PS3 is a nightmare come true for Sony. They lose more money than ever before just selling the system, the developers can’t possibly make money except on the maybe 1 in 12 games that might go gold, and the PS3 fans who bought the system are going to be wondering what the hell happened to their investment by the summer of 08.

Oh, and now for my real point:

Virtua Fighter is THE pro level fighting game. Just because you don’t hear people talking about it, means nothing. It’s above the heads of kids who can only handle Tekken and Soul Calibur. (Both great series, but nowhere near the league of depth that VF offers, which is why it’s THE tournament fighter.)

  • Pfil on January 5th, 2007 at 10:06 pm Says:

  • I’ve been seeing the PS3 solely as a Suikoden VI player from the getgo. Before launch and now after, I still really don’t want to get one. The more I see “exclusives” being sent over to the 360, the happier I become. I don’t even want Tekken 6. I just want Namco to inch over to the 360 so it might get the next Ace Combat. There are 4 franchises I’ve got my fingers crossed for and MGS is one of ‘em.

  • skeptic on September 22nd, 2007 at 10:22 am Says:

  • Ok, virtua fighter is not as good as tekken no matter how many drastic 360 fanboys are out there. I bet if vf5 wasnt goin 360, yall would never even mention it and bash that too, so stfu. Tekken is stayin on ps not too much because of a contract but for the simple fact that they want to keep it on ps. namco saw the flop of tekken advance, and will not do it again. Besides no one would buy a tekken on 360, it was just suck anyways
