More PS3 Rumors
By Richard Windsor | September 11, 2006
Another nasty rumor about the PS3 has sprung up. This time the rumor states that only the original person who buys a PS3 game will be able to play it online. So if you go to the store and buy a used copy of Killzone 2 and try to play it online you will be out of luck. Remember that this is just a rumor and should not be taken seriously yet, but if true would be another huge hit to Sony

This rumour is as old as time, and keeps resurfacing for some strange reason (Microsoft?). This rumour has been debunked. It’s not true. Not gonna happen.

Wouldn’t that mean that they would have to write something new on the disc every time someone plays it? That’s why I never belive these types of rumours.

This was shot down months ago. Sony applied for a patent on technology like this but there was no indication that it would be in the PS3
Comment by F-Train — September 11, 2006 @ 1:17 pm
Uh no it does not mean that! The technology behind it would simply link your online profile to a reg number already on the disc, duh!

But the reason it is stupid is because PS3 games are going to be released on Blu-Ray. At the moment, Blu-Ray (writing) drives are prohibitively expensive, so I cant imagine there being widespread game copying anytime soon. That is also ignoring all of the copy protections that will be inherent in both the software and the disc/writer hardware to prevent against these actions. The security will be almost to the point that reselling is extremely viable. Anyways, what do you do with rentals if this was the case?

Wow… I guess that Nintendo may just come in second in this console war. Poor Sony.

well i bought battlefield2 (for PC) used and i cant play it online if the original owner that is using my serial number is also online.
besides, when we buy a game, we license software from the publisher, we dont actualy “own” the game in the first place….

This is a very very very old rumor. Not to be taken seriously at all. And if anyone believed that, they’re complete idiots. And if Sony actually did that, then they might as well step out of the gaming business for this console cycle and start working on PS4. But definitely wont happen.

its all “to fight priacy” more lik emake profits more lmfao i really hope its true i swear i want sony to die with their own power

ok and umm.. they have done that before with the ps2 each copy of the disc had a specific number pirates now and people to look into information on technology knows

just to let yoyu people know the other rumore was that a game this once incerted into a console it would only work on that console and sony was thinking of that but this is probably their other option

that will never happen because industries are made to work together…stores like gamestop and whatnot would be assed out. they would never stop the cash flow like that get real..just a rumor. T
