Kingdom Rush – iPad

I have to admit, I’m a huge fan of Tower Defense games. I try most of them out on iOS that look half decent. So when I discovered Ironhide Game Studio’s Kingdom Rush on the App Store over the holidays, I hit that Insta-buy button faster than it took to charge my credit card. Kingdom Rush is easily in the top-5 list of best TD games on iOS devices, except it adds a smooth RTS element which I quite like – similar to Tiny Heroes.

Throughout the game you’re entertained with amusing characters, voiceover and animations that remind me of the artwork found in Battleheart or the art for games created by There are only 4 tower types but that is plenty because you can further evolve those into more specialized towers to make a total of 8, when you acquire the coinage to upgrade. Additionally there are 30 enemies, spells, achievements and much, much more making this a hard-to-put-down TD game.

The only 2 minor issues I had was that it was short with only about a dozen levels to play, but you can go back and try other modes within those levels which I did do. And the reinforcements seemed to disappear unexpectedly at times.

This game really kept me engaged, which is a hard thing to do these days in the sea of games on the App Store. I was especially fond of the voice over, art and unexpected easter eggs strewn throughout the game, like unlocking a snow beast in the cave of a winter level or blowing up sheep with your finger, and yes there’s an achievement for that!

Grab Kingdom Rush now on the iPad! You won’t be disappointed. I just hope the Dev’s are hard at work creating more DLC for this gem. Nice work!
