Review: The H3 Gaming Headset
I have used many headsets before, but today I bring you one that is affordable, solid, and just great. I am talking about the H3 Headset by Raptor Gaming. Raptor Gaming is a company based out of Germany who produce great and affordable gaming devices and accessories. Here in the states CompuExpert is distributing Raptor Gaming exclusively. Out of the packaging you have the 7.1 surround sound H3 headset, a stand, and a whole mess of wires. It is plug and play but you will need to install the driver in order to get there wonderful tool that controls the 7.1 surround sound.
PROS
Played Dirt2 and Battlefield Bad Company 2 with the H3 headset and I can say it was superb compared to using my 5.1 speakers. I could catch a sniper sneaking up on me, the bass of a .50 cal going off in the distance, the pings of gravel hitting my car, or the scream of my engine. The quality of the headset is great for the price. Within the package bundle you get a stand, carrying case, cord extensions, and a wipe down cloth. The construction of the headset is great, stitching lines soft cushions and speakers. Solid body on the H3 makes it look sleek and pleasant to put on. There are 2 volume control knobs that stick out the bottom of the speakers. Those knobs give the user more control when trying to equalize volume, say you need a little more volume in your right ear that your left because of hearing loss, with a turn of the knob that is achieved. The mic that sits on your left speaker has a noise cancelling feature that your teammates will appreciate or your opponents will hate especially when using Ventrillo, Team Speak, or Steam voice chat. A 6 foot usb cord hangs off the H3 that features a volume control and mic mute switch. The cord is split up into a green and pink cable you can plug directly into your audio ins or you can hook them into an adapter that can be hooked into your usb port. The bundle comes with a stand that has a piano black finish and it also dubs as an USB hub and a SD card reader slot. This is a great headset one of the best I have been able to use.
CONS
Not too many cons for the H3 headset actually, well maybe just some bad luck. When I first received the unit it worked well but in about an hour it started to lose volume in the right speaker. I tried a lot of things then figured out that it was the usb cord. I would have to move the green and pink cable around to get it to work right. Most likely it has to be a fault in the unit that I was sent. The stand is very useful but extremely in the way if you have a small work space. There is no swivel motion on the speakers so you can’t flip one away from you when you need to. Like most large speakers that have a lot of cushioning they get very hot and your ears get very sweaty. The website for Raptor-Gaming is in German so look for the English flag in order to convert the language. Do not order this from the Raptor-Gaming website if your in the states it will cost you an arm and a leg, order from the CompuExpert’s website.
In all this is a great headset, the bundle gives you a lot and for the price it’s not bad. Little hiccups here and there but they do work themselves out. I highly recommend this headset, at 89.99 this is a steal, most gaming 7.1 surround sound headsets will run you into the hundreds. Check out where to buy it from CompuExperts’s website.
