Final Fantasy XI Ultimate Collection Announced

When the news hit my email box this morning about a new announcement for a Final Fantasy Online title, I figured it was going to be the announcement that Final Fantasy XIV was finally in a stable, working state, but that was not the case. Instead, we got the news that Final Fantasy XI, now nine years running, is releasing an Ultimate collection of all the expansions with the original title.
Final Fantasy XI Ultimate Collection Abyssea Edition, will include the main title, the four different expansion packs and all the add-on scenarios that have been released for the game up to this point. On top of adding all of this content in one package, it will also be competitively priced at $19.99 for everything.
I do find it amusing that Final Fantasy XI refuses to die after all of these years, and that it has completely overshadowed the Final Fantasy XIV debacle at this point. I mean, it is kind of sad at this point, but it looks like Final Fantasy XI still has legs due to this less than stellar performance from its successor.

Upcoming Collection Offers the Entire Spectrum of FINAL FANTASY XI Content in One Package for Windows-Based PCs
LOS ANGELES (April 27, 2011) – Square Enix, Inc., the publisher of Square Enix® interactive entertainment products in the Americas, today announced the upcoming launch of FINAL FANTASY® XI Ultimate Collection Abyssea Edition. A comprehensive package of all FINAL FANTASY XI content released to date for this acclaimed massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), this new package will launch globally (North America, Japan, Europe) on May 16, 2011, and will be available for download exclusively for Windows-based PCs from select digital distributors.
Ultimate Collection Abyssea Edition will include all four expansion packs for FINAL FANTASY XI, from the premiere expansion, Rise of the Zilart®, to the recently concluded Wings of the Goddess®. It will also contain all add-on scenarios to date; namely, A Crystalline Prophecy® – Ode of Life Bestowing™, A Moogle Kupo d’Etat® – Evil in Small Doses™, and A Shantotto Ascension® – The Legend Torn, Her Empire Born™. Also included are the add-on battle areas introduced in 2010: Vision of Abyssea®, Scars of Abyssea® and Heroes of Abyssea®.
As an added benefit for new players and as well as those returning to Vana’diel®, all purchases of Ultimate Collection Abyssea Edition will include the Destrier Beret, an in-game item loaded with bonuses to help new players get started, while also giving their characters an enviable article of clothing.
