Aeropodcast #177: When Game Advertising Goes Off The Rails
This week on the Aeropodcast, Fourhman and myself took on the difficult task of watching and talking about the unused TV commercial for Top Spin 4 to talk up advertising gone wrong in video games. In the advertisement, we have Serena Williams and the “World’s Sexiest Gamer” advertising Top Spin 4 used with the PlayStation Move. The trailer has both ladies dressed up in rather sexy outfits, while grunts and groans play in the background. We both talk about how the ad may not have been used, but it got the game a hell of a lot of coverage, and maybe was a subtle attempt at deniable advertising for Top Spin 4. We also talked about poor choices in advertising with the Dead Space 2 “Moms Will Hate It” campaign and how it takes gaming back a few steps.
The show also has feedback from our new Facebook Questions section, of course, our What We Are Playing and benign commentary that people have come to love, or hate depending on feedback.
The podcast was mixed, by Stephen “Totally Dating Serena Williams” Munn, and features “Droid Girl”, performed by Lazyitis.
