Top Spin Developer Diary #5 – My Career
The good folks over at 2K Sports have put out a new Developer Diary on their Facebook page for Top Spin 4, this time focusing on the new and improved Career mode in the game. With the new career mode, the developers have tried to give Top Spin 4 more of a true tennis feel, as you now only play in one tournament a month, along with one prep event.
The prep event is there to help you with building your skill set and allow you to work on the weaker parts of your game. You can also earn valuable points that will help you move through the eight rankings for a player, from newcomer to legend. When you move to the tournament, you will play through the brackets with the intent to win the entire thing, although you will gain XP no matter where you finish, although you will earn less for a lower finish.
Finally, it appears that there are all kinds of special events that will unlock through your career, like playing in sponsorship matches, or even doing something like participating in a party or a television interview. These take time away from training, but could boost your fanbase. Also new, and kind of cribbed from NBA 2K11 is the idea of challenges during your match, like not allowing a point scored in a match, or winning off of a serve. These challenges will add additional XP to your character, and help you advance faster.
To read the full diary, check out the developer’s facebook page for the full article. Also check after the jump for some of the screens from the bracket and tournament selection screens. Top Spin 4 is set for release on Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3 from 2K Sports. A demo has also been released on PS3 and Xbox 360 to test out the game before its release later this month.
