Supremacy MMA Takes Mixed Martials Arts Genre In New Direction
So, with the success of UFC and other MMA leagues, it is no surprise that publishers are looking at the genre to release a title to get in on the action. However, it seems that with the lackluster follow up to UFC Undisputed 2010, you need to have a hook to keep people coming back. 505 Games is looking to go old school with its MMA game, Supremacy MMA, by heading back to the roots of MMA leagues.
Back when MMA was in its infancy, it was little regulated, and struggled to find outlets willing to cover the somewhat brutal sport. It was with few rules, with eye gouging, hooking and groin punches being about all that you could not perform. Supremacy MMA is using that as its base, creating what looks to be a very visceral, if not graphically violent fighthing game. In the trailer below (non agegate approved), you see a lot of crusing blows and at one point, someone’s leg getting snapped in the middle. It made me cringe somewhat while watching it, but at the same time, it did tend to grab at me.
I can’t say whether I am in line to get the game at launch, but it definitely grabbed my eyes, and at least had me interested in the product. It might be the thing that some gamers are looking for, but it is definitely not for the faint of heart.
