Review: Battlefield Bad Company 2: Vietnam
I recently got to play the newest installment of BFBC2 (Battlefield Bad Company 2), since 2 am this morning. For 14.95 you get a brand new multiplayer experience, no campaign modes comes with it, but a new and familiar gameplay does. Dating back to the Vietnam War, you either play as the NVA or the US Troops in various parts of Vietnam, from Hill 137 to Phu Bai Valley. New Weapons, Vehicles, maps and a kick ass soundtrack flood your computer. I very much enjoy the look of the game especially the vast maps that almost feel endless. The maps are incredibly detailed and beautiful. The eeriness of an orange glow, smoke, burning trees, and muddy water makes it feel like you’re in the dense jungle, you can almost feel the humidity suffocating you.
Graphics are looking pretty cool with the addition of new air, land and sea vehicles, also new weapons give you a much needed break from BFBC 2’s modern day arsenal. I noticed little details like a thumb print on your sniper scope, scratched words of wisdom on your shotgun, or the highly detailed scorched terrain in some of the maps. Cascading waters off cliffs and napalm seared earth live on in the background as you play. Not much improvement on the skins of the characters but the new tanks, gun ships, and boats, get you sucked into this game quick. The surroundings and the ambient of the game make this expansion a well spent $15. You get a whole armament of new weapons, from the XM22 Navy Seal machine gun to the vintage style Remington 870 from the regular game. I feel for the win goes to close quarter battle weapon that survived through WWII, the flamethrower. The flamethrower is just brutal, you have a pissed off GI running at you full speed and lights you up with that thing, you can’t see, aim, or hear anything and you just die shooting smelling like bacon.
Like always the sound of the game is awesome, starting from the wild birds in the trees to the 60′s music blaring from some of the tanks, yes the tanks. While the sound of an AK47 popping in the background you hear a new but familiar sound before the ground below you explodes, yes it’s a new n00b tube, the M79 grenade launcher. Hearing the pop of the M79 gives you at least a second to hear your death coming.
All in all the expansion is worth the price, I very much enjoyed it. I stayed up till 2am to get my access code 3 days before it came out, well worth the wait. I highly suggest picking up Battlefield Bad Company 2: Vietnam, for $15, your getting a much more out of BFBC 2. Check out Battlefield Bad Company 2: Vietnam’s website for more details. Enjoy.
