Ones to Watch: Wii and DS for November 2010
It’s a massive month for everybody, and Nintendo is no exception. Sonic, Donkey Kong, GoldenEye, Mickey Mouse, Rabbids, Pac-Man, Pikachu… everybody is out in force for your shopping dollars. What’s making your Black Friday must-get list?
Nov. 1
PokePark Wii: Pikachu’s Adventure (Wii) – A light, kid-focused game in the tradition of such past non-core releases as Hey You, Pikachu and The Pokemon Channel.
Nov. 2
Karaoke Revolution: Glee (Wii) – This one is hurrying in before the show goes from universally adored to unilaterally detested. Like everything else on TV in America.
GoldenEye 007 (Wii, DS) – No Joe Don Baker model, no interest. MR. OBAMA, WHAT ARE WE DOING ABOUT THIS OVERSIGHT?
Silly Bandz (DS) – I’m putting this on the Ones to Watch list because I am desperate to hear how they make a DS game out of amusingly shaped rubber bands.
Nov. 5
Babysitting Mama (Wii) – Somewhere, the Build-a-Bear people are huddled together analyzing charts and experimenting with stuffing Remotes into plush bear carcasses.
Nov. 7
FlingSmash (Wii) – Nintendo’s second first-party offering for the month… this is kind of a Boom Bloxy deal that comes with one of the new Wii Remote Plus models.
Nov. 9
Raving Rabbids: Travel in Time (Wii) – The Rabbids franchise bounces back into minigames. Boo.
Rune Factory 3: A Fantasy Harvest Moon (DS) – Wouldn’t be a complete month without one of these showing up.
Nov. 14
uDraw Studio (Wii) – The new drawing tablet peripheral arrives with two compatible games. It seems there is no end to the well of new Wii peripheral inventions. And a drawing tablet isn’t even a patently stupid idea, like yet another orange rifle-shaped holster.
Mario vs. Donkey Kong Mini-Land Mayhem (DS) – This has become a reliable second-tier franchise, eh?
Nov. 16
Sonic Colors (Wii, DS) – Sega’s second shot this season at saving Sonic.
Pac-Man Party (Wii) – Celebrate thirty years of Pac-Man with his very own Mario Party riff. I remember when I turned 30; I didn’t even get a Chuck E. Cheese party.
Nov. 21
Donkey Kong Country Returns (Wii) – Nintendo gets the nostalgic banana barrel rolling with this Retro Studios release. Apparently this one is the anti-Kirby, as difficult and challenging as Epic Yarn was relaxing and easy.
Nov. 29
Golden Sun: Dark Dawn (DS) – The fan-favorite GBA RPG series finally gets a DS installment.
Nov. 30
Epic Mickey (Wii) – The month ends with the most anticipated Wii title of the year, Warren Spector’s love letter to Unca Walt.
