Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor Announced, Now Full of Kinect

Okay, many people have probably heard about Steel Battalion at some point in their gaming career.  If you haven’t all you really need to know is that the game was an original Xbox exclusive title, and it shipped with the largest controller peripheral I have ever seen for the console.  You think that Ride board that you purchase is large – you have not seen anything until you have sat behind the Steel Battalion controller.  As you can guess, the title was a rather niche item, and never really sold well in the US, so it was a suprise to see a sequel announced today.  More curious is the fact that it will be using Kinect for its control scheme.

Yep, you heard that right, the console title that shipped with the most complex console controller ever is going to ship a sequel to that title that uses no controller.  One has to wonder if this is a marketing gimmick, going from huge controller to nothing, but it seems to be a serious attempt at using Kinect.  We don’t have a lot to go on right now, minus a few screens, a logo and a CGI trailer.  Sure the story looks interesting, but I cannot wait to see how the game will flow using Kinect.

Look for more screens and a video after the jump,

Between this and all those horror games announced at TGS, at least we're finally seeing Kinect games that aren't asscrap Wii minigame knockoffs.
