Good Old Games Gone or Cleverly Worded PR Stunt

Submitted by on September 21, 2010 – 2:41 pmNo Comment

Earlier today, I started hearing some comotion about Good Old Games, and that the service was shutting down.  I immediately headed over to the site, only to be graced with a short wall of text.  There is a lot of info there about whether the service can continue in its current form and that they debated about this decision for quite some time before making it.  They also mention that you will be able to start downloading your games and extra items again starting Thursday for any items that you had bought on your account.

However, the Internet went crazy and then we received several more updates talking about how more information would be given out starting on Wednesday, with a press event that we will be covering here on Aeropause.com.  Also, the wording of the text on the Good Old Games site started to raise some eyebrows, most notably that the service has been in open beta since it opened about two years ago.  The fact that they specifically mention that the service “cannot continue in its current form” has now led people to believe that this was a PR stunt that went horribly wrong.  It seems that the rumor is that the site is being relaunch on Thursday, with new features, games and more, but that this was to be a different way to announce it.  Hopefully, this is the case, but we will have more info tomorrow after the press event.  For now, hit the jump and see the trailer that started all of this news.
