Fatal Frame 2 remake coming to Wii; just probably not your Wii
Despite never releasing the fourth Fatal Frame game outside of Japan – and in fact contributing to a flurry of confusion and misinformation about the Wii exclusive – Nintendo is apparently working with Tecmo on a new Fatal Frame game. This time, a remake of Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly, the PS2 series’ high water mark.
Although Fatal Frame 4, Mask of the Lunar Eclipse, was mentioned in the US’s Nintendo Power mag several times, Nintendo quietly squashed any chance of the game coming to Europe or the Americas. At the time, leading rumors suggested the game had control issues and was buggy. IE, that it wasn’t up to Nintendo’s specifications and neither Nintendo nor Tecmo wanted to invest the time to “fixing” it for a Western release.
That wasn’t good enough for the fans, who created an SD card patch that made the Japanese edition of the game run on any region’s Wii, without the risk of modding the system. And, despite those ugly rumors about the game’s playability… I finished it and thought it was great.
So what crap reason will we get for Nintendo not publishing this one in the West? I’d be less surly about it if they’d just admit that A) they don’t think it will sell, or B) they don’t want scary games on their release list.
