PixelJunk LifeLike Is Older Than I Thought

I tripped over an announcement over at PSU.com that Q-Games will be revealing a visualizer for the PS3 called PixelJunk LifeLike at the Tokyo Game Show, a bit of software built in partnership with Baiyon, the very talented artist responsible for the popular look of PixelJunk Eden. A little digging found that it popped up in a blog or two back in March. Something with this long of a lead time in the press must either have been talked about too early or must be taking so much of their time up I wonder how much they’ll need to charge for it to not lose their shirts.

It turns out that Q-Games has been involved with the PS3 from very early on. The Gaia visualizer that uses NASA data to show a really great picture of the Earth, something added way back at the end of 2007, was built by them and was originally pitched as the boot sequence for the PS3. They also made other visualizers for the system.

It’s too bad we don’t have more visualizers to choose from, but I’d wager that their time might be better spent getting some really snazzy animated themes on the market, instead. While visualizers hide mostly unused until you start up some music and select them, animated XMB themes are much more visible to the system user.
