Electronic Arts Throws Down With A New MMA Online Features Trailer

Electronic Arts is setting up a new sports franchise with EA MMA, and today, we have a new trailer that shows off all the new online features that will be available in the new title, and the feature set is impressive.  While you have all the normal quick match and customized fighters that are available in most online sports franchises, there are several new items that will be of interest to gamers.

First off, they have the new title system that will allow players to battle it out for a coveted title belt.  Any player will enter the system as a base fighter, but as you build up a compelling record, you will end up having the possibility to earn your way into a title fight.  Win and you are now the king of that weight class, but then you will soon have another fighter gunning for your title.

Another feature that will make all the little Oscar De La Hoya’s out there giddy with excitement is the new build a card mode.  In this mode, you and several of your friends or party members will have the ability to set up a full fight card.  You set up the matches, and then the full fight card is played out.  As two participants fight, the rest of the group will be able to watch and provide their own commentary via their headset.  Nothing like dissing someone after a brutal takedown via your own suave commentary.

EA MMA will also include a fight replay system that will automatically upload the full video for your last fight, and other gamers can go and download the fight to watch it.  Pick one of the top ranked fighters to learn new strategies, or maybe pull down a match from a soon to be challenger to scope out the competition.  You will aos have the ability to make highlight reels that will be comprised of your key moments in a fight, so everyone can see that wicked jumping knee takedown that you performed in one of your matches.

If for some reason all of that is not enough to make you appreciate what EA MMA is doing with their new fight system, you will also have the ability to upload your fighter to the EA servers so others will be able to download the fighter into their own game.  And this mode will have a webfront as well, so you can scout out fighters during  your lunch break, flag them for download, and then have them download into your game when you get home and start up EA MMA.

So far, EA Sports is really looking to make MMA stand out as a premiere title in the new Mixed Martial Arts fighting field.  Sure, they have a long, uphill battle to take out THQ’s UFC title, but with all the new features they are putting into the title, it is definitely looking like a possible candidate.

Look for EA MMA to hit shelves in October 2010 from EA Sports on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
