Take Up the Ye Olde Blizzard Writing Challenge
Your weapons? They seem to be but a musty tome and quill, but know that their power is far stronger than the armies of the Scourge, far craftier than the zerg Swarm, and far mightier than the Burning Hells. Ready your tools, scribe, and prepare for combat with the inky beast called fiction!
That’s the introduction to Blizzard’s 2010 Global Writing Contest. Whilst I think you need to give the quill a miss – apparently anything submitted outside of a .doc format will be disqualified – the rules are otherwise fairly relaxed; your story must be written in English, set in a Blizzard universe someplace, have a title (apparently ‘Untitled’ is not good enough) and be between 2,500 and 7,500 words long. If you can manage that, then you’re in for a chance of sweeping the ultimate prize.
Ah, but what is an ultimate prize I hear you cry! According to Blizzard, it’s a trip to Blizzard’s HQ in California to meet and eat with the Blizzard writing staff. You’ll also get your choice of a Diablo III “OVERTHROWN” barbarian diorama or a Frostmourne sword. As I do not play Blizzard games, I have absolutely no idea what those things are – but I’m sure they’re thoroughly awesome.
The competition closes on 23 August 2010, so you better get a wriggle on. I doubt a true masterpiece can be created overnight! For more information, visit the site – good luck to all ye who enter!
