Ones to Watch: Wii and DS for July 2010

July 2010 shall forever be known as “That month between Sin & Punishment and Metroid: Other M.” And that may be the best it gets. There’s so many terrible movie-based games launching in July for both Wii and DS that I don’t even have the energy to pick out a couple and make fun of them. This is a serious black hole for Wii and DS releases… hopefully we’ll get some decent WiiWare/DSiWare to make up for it. When’s La-Mulana and Retro City Rampage coming out? Here’s the few choice cuts from a very lean meal.

July 6
Tournament of Legends (Wii)
Does a historically epic cast mean historically epic gameplay? Stay tuned for Stephen’s review!

July 11
Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies (DS)
Handily the top pick of the month… but even so you’ve kinda got to be presold on Dragon Quest and/or JRPGs in general.

July 20
TrackMania Wii (Wii)
A PC legend, finally making its way to Wii. Seems like it could scratch the customization itch that ModNation Racers serves, but if you want personality you’ll have to stick with Mario Kart.

July 27
Guilty Party (Wii)
Early reports say this party game may actually not suck. If it takes 100 lousy party games to get to one good one, I’m not sure that was a worthwhile trade-off.

Arc Rise Fantasia (Wii)
This RPG has been out in Japan for a year, and now finally hits North America.
