Best Games of 2010 to Date. Apparently.

We’ve had a massively entertaining first half to 2010. Think back to some of the titles released over the last six months – Bioshock 2, Red Dead Redemption, Heavy Rain, Mass Effect 2 to name but a few – and you’ll realise why 2010 has kind of kicked ass so far.

And to stop those OMG THAT GAME SUCKS NO IT DOESN’T YES IT DOES EVERYONE KNOWS THAT DDR IS THE BEST arguments spilling over, Metacritic – the site that aggregates the review scores for major outlets and sites – have selflessly published a summary of the first half of 2010, detailing what games have consistently had the highest review scores, including breakdowns by platform performance, too.

The verdict? Mass Effect 2 comes in in pole, with new boy Red Dead Redemption already taking second place. Bayonetta and Bioshock 2 take fourth and fifth places respectively, with shock entry Super Street Fighter IV taking the bronze. Well. It’s a shock entry for me, anyway.

Do I agree with the critics? Hmm. Dunno – although that’s possibly only because whilst I own all of the top five bar one (yes, Street Fighter), they’re mostly sitting unfinished on my shelf (yes, I’m a serial non-finisher). How about you? What do you think?

I too own all but SSFIV, and I have to agree with the first place game, and I can see the second place. The rest just seem odd. I reviewed Bioshock 2 and found it to be a good game, that was slow to start and ended with a solid finish. But 88%? Seems a bit high. Bayonetta is a game that I love, but that is a solid 4 out of 5 for me. Interesting list. SSFIV is the surprise of the list. Did not think it would rank that high.

I was surprised at what was left out of the top five until I realized this is only cross-platform games.

Without Wii-specific games included, this list isn't going to do a heckuva' lot for my gamer ego.

They have number one dead on I think. There has been no better game IMO then Mass Effect 2 this year. I played that game all the way through 3 times.

I loved the combat in Bayonetta, but I never finished it because it frustrated me to no ends at times. I liked Bioshock 2 a lot, although I doubt that it will be in the top 5 near the end of this year.

Mass Effect 2 definitely wins my GOTFHOTY (Game of the First Half of the Year) Award. Just beat Insanity mode yesterday, and boy was it a sweet and wild ride. I can't wait to continue my two Shepards in Mass Effect 3.
