Backbreaker is Full of Game Modes
Normally, non-NFL licensed football games come with great promise and tend to flame out rather quickly. Look at 2K Games with their All-Pro 2K8 title. It showed up with a lot of promise, but never really caught any momentum, and Madden ended up soundly trouncing it.
Backbreaker on the other hand looks to eschew anything to do with licensed players or even retired players, instead focusing on realistic on the field action and deep game play modes. In the video we received for Backbreaker today, we get to see some of the new modes, including the seasonal gameplay and quickplay modes. However, the big focus looks to be the Backbreaker Seasonal play, which takes football, and fits it into a style similar to English Premier League soccer. In this mode of play, you start at a low tiered league and have to earn your way up into the premier leagues. Succeed and you will move into the higher league. Stumble and you get relegated back to a lower league. It is an interesting format, and it could be the new thing that allows the game to take on Madden.
Check the jump for the Backbreaker gameplay mode trailer. Backbreaker hits store shelves today on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
