Writer Gail Simone tweaks Red Dead Redemption via Twitter

Gail Simone, known to comics fans for writing DC’s “Secret Six” and “Birds of Prey” series, has spent most of today making fun of Red Dead Redemption on her Twitter account. The recurring theme seems to be that she finds the game’s focus on mundane cowboy tasks rather odd. Even speaking as a fan of Rockstar’s Wild West opus, I found these really funny.
“The main character in Red Dead Redemption is utterly compelling. He runs the full spectrum of emotion from mildly polite to vaguely cordial.”
“I knew Red Dead Redemption would be thrilling the moment it started with a leisurely train ride and old ladies gossiping.”
I do have to say, I am incredibly surprised at how nice John Marston is. Simone is definitely right on point there. To date, Rockstar main characters have been either straight-up criminals or otherwise internally tortured. Compared to the guys from the GTA series, Marston seems positively normal. More sarcastic jabs at RDR’s expense after the jump!
“I had this nightmare where I was walking about doing nothing for hours and it turned out I was just playing Red Dead Redemption.”
“I’m going to write a game called Red Dead Redemption II where you mostly bail hay and look at dirt.”
“I think my favorite part of Red Dead Redemption is that bit where something almost happened. It’s a full-stop thrill ride!”
“I don’t want to say Red Dead Redemption is slow, but it made me wistful for the action-packed days of MYST.”
“Red Dead Redemption is full of choices…do you lay on your cot or say hello to strangers? It’s almost too exciting.”
“I can’t wait to play more Red Dead Redemption today. Dare I to hope that there might be more cot sleeping and corn protecting?”
“@theVoice123 how is Redemption is it more like an RPG or first person shooter?
@GailSimone: It’s more of a tranquilizer.”
Perhaps ironically, she followed that up by recommending Heavy Rain, a title some gamers found, well, boring.
