DarkStar One: Broken Alliance Ship Overview, Part 1

Submitted by on May 26, 2010 – 1:08 pmNo Comment

The universe of DarkStar One can be a confusing place when you first jump into it.  With so many different factions and alien species, it can be easy to start shooting the wrong people.  With that in mind, Kalypso Media has started releasing some screens and designs for the different races and the ships they use in DarkStar One.  The first part of this release focuses on the Terrans, the Rapter and the Mortok.  Each race has a distinct style and philosophy when it comes to ship design, making the gamer come up with new tactics for each race in combat.

Check the jump for more ship and alien race screens, as well as info for each race.  DarkStar One: Fragile Alliance hits the Xbox 360 on July 6th, 2010 from Kalypso Media.

Via Kalypso Media:

Six different life forms populate the game world of DarkStar One – Broken Alliance. Each features a distinct racial persona, which carries over not only into their actions and reactions to the player, but is featured in their ship and base designs, and their technologies.

In DarkStar One – Broken Alliance, the unstable peace between the races is frequently disrupted by quarrels and conflicts. The different ideologies of the races constantly cause skirmishes at the borders, espionage and disruptions.

While traveling through space the player will always find ample opportunities to take advantage of these conflicts. After all, your increasing need for better weapons and equipment must be funded somehow – and taking on jobs as cargo escort, bounty hunter or freight hauler for one race or another are a great way to earn those necessary credits.

The Terrans

The Terrans prefer forward facing weapons and missiles and they usually attempt to keep the player within their cone of fire.

The Terrans prefer a design with classical shapes and neutral colors.

The Mortok

The Mortok do not use bow weapons. Instead, they rely upon turrets, which can fire in any direction. When the Mortok are pursued, they are able to employ a sudden reverse thrust, which will enable them to withdraw from the opponent’s cone of fire.

The Mortok like bulky and rounded shapes. Their ships are heavily armored and therefore, they are not very agile.

The Raptor

The Raptor have a special combination of weapons at their disposal: they possess an extraordinary bow weapon that inflicts damage only to shields, and they use a rocket launcher that fires and recharges rapidly to deal punishing damage once an enemy’s shields have dropped.

The ships and the stations of the Raptor typically feature lizard-like shapes.
