Post Mortem – Aeropause Community Playdate
A couple of weeks ago, Aeropause had the opportunity to host, in conjunction with Microsoft, to host a community playdate. The game of choice for the game night was Shadowrun, allowing both Xbox 360 and PC gamers to get together for some magical butt kicking action. Richard Windsor, Mike Koss, Jordan Snyder, Shane Whitehouse and I were the hosts for the evening, and after a somewhat bumpy start, we ended up having a great evening of fun.
Our evening of Shadowrun started off with…networking issues. Yes, it seemed that all the games we started in the beginning of the evening were filled with nothing but lag. Horrible lag. Lag that made Shadowrun absolutely unplayable. However, after about fifteen minutes of troubleshooting, we were able to get the game up and running with no issues.
Shadowrun launched with a lot of promise, but unfortunately, it flopped out of the gate due to a lack of maps and a steep cost. Mix in that the PC side of the equation required Vista, which was not exactly setting the world afire. All that said, Shadowrun has a hardcore, dedicated community that has followed the game over the last a few years, keeping it alive. It is also one of the few games that has supported cross-platform multiplayer, allowing PC gamers to trade gunshots with their console counterparts.
Some of the highlights of the evening included a lot of questions about Aeropause, and for some reason, if we were developers of Shadowrun. Not sure why everyone thought we had something to do with the development, but Jordan and myself did joke a bit about that, mentioning that we developed the game in a weekend, and so forth. A few other players noted our lack of skill at times in the game, which probably came from a lack of practice, but all in all, the players that joined us were a lot of fun, and unlike the stereotype, very cordial. And how could I forget to mention Jordan having the strategy of the night, which was “RUN TO THE FLAG” followed by “RUN TO THE ENDPOINT”. Great stuff indeed. I also wanted to give a shout out to SwiftGlassEater who put a write up of the evening on his blog, Real Talk Gaming.
I also want to give a shout out to all the people that joined us. I have listed as many as I could find from the evening. Thanks also to Microsoft for helping gaming communities like Aeropause host these nights. And without further ado, the list:
