Ones to Watch: Xbox 360 Releases for April 2010
Another month, another set of new video games to test our palette. This month on the Xbox 360, we have a small slate of solid titles that look to be worthy of your gaming dollar. Be it sports, shooters or stealth, April has a title that will make your Xbox 360 happy.
As for our case mod this month, we have a simple, yet elegant design, featuring the iconic Man of Steel, Superman. The thing that made this mod stick out for me, was the piercing eyes that just seem to be staring in to you. Creepy, yet awesome. Check out more pics of the mod at http://xboxfreedom.com/superman-xbox-360-case-mod/.
Also, make sure to read our other Ones to Watch articles for PS3/PSP, Wii/DS and PC.
Splinter Cell: Conviction – After a long journey through development hell, including the possibility of Michael Ironside not doing the voice of Sam Fisher and the project almost getting cancelled, Splinter Cell: Conviction is almost here. Shown for the first time after a year hiatus at E3 2009, Splinter Cell: Conviction was a breakout hit with journalists and fans alike. Adding a little more action to the traditionally stealth focused Splinter Cell series, Conviction uses a unique art presentation where goals and objectives are silk screened on to world objects, and the up close melee fighting feels raw and vicious. Delays have me worried that there could be some final issues with release, but hopefully, this is just the pessimist in me. Splinter Cell: Conviction hits shelves on April 13th, 2010.
2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa – This year is a World Cup year for soccer/football, so it mandates that EA use their FIFA license to create a 2010 title that ties into the chase for the World Cup. While the game features all of the teams that you would find in any other FIFA soccer title, this one does have some emphasis on making it to the World Cup and winning the title for your choice of nation. The game boasts some of the best “on the pitch” visuals ever, and from the screenshots, I am impressed. Again, this is just another annual re-gurgitation of a sports title, and with the World Cup releases, there is not a huge amount of innovation implemented. That said, if you have skipped on the last few FIFA titles, or want a current World Cup roster, this is the release for you. 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa hits on April 27th, 2010.
Dead to Rights: Retribution – So what has been missing on the Xbox 360 after all these years? Well, that would be Jack Slade and his K-9 companion, Shadow. Dead to Rights: Retribution brings back the third person shooter/brawler for a new generation, and it appears that the action has been amped up to a new level. I have always enjoyed the Dead to Rights games on a cheesy action game level, as the dialog tends to be done with a ton of overacting, and the action is borderline crazy. Unfortunately, a lack of polish has always seemed to have killed any momentum the franchise might receive from gamers. I was hesitant to put Dead to Rights in my list this month, but I err on the side of caution with this one. Dead to Rights: Retribution hits shelves on April 27th, 2010.
Super Street Fighter IV – How much can I really say about Super Street Figher IV. I mean we get an expanded roster of characters, a host of new arenas, and a slew of new moves and abilities. Pretty much everything that the hardcore Street Fighter crowd have asked for will be in this title. Of course the biggest letdown with this title is the fact that Super Street Fighter IV is coming about a year after Street Fighter IV hit shelves. Why not make this a DLC pack or something of that sort, and Capcom will tell you that there were too many changes to make that happen. That is probably true, but it still leaves a bitter pill in my mouth. That said, there is enough that is new to warrant a new purchase if you are a fan of the series. Super Street Fighter IV hits shelves on April 27th, 2010.
And there you have it, another month of releases on the Xbox 360. Mass Effect 2 has its first paid DLC hitting on April 6th, with new character, Kasumi Goto. There are a few other release titles, but for the cream of the crop, you should be looking at the above mentioned titles. If you disagree, or have a pick that you think we missed, hit up the forums on the discussion below and give us your take.
