It happened to Phoenix Wright. Once upon a time, the name Gyakuten Saiban meant “Can you believe Japan has a lawyer video game?” Now the Ace Attorney franchise has become ubiquitous across the North American DS and Wii racks.

Habitually flogged by the gaming press whenever they do “Wacky in Japan” articles, the 1992 original musclemen shmup received a surprise US/EU WiiWare release in 2008. Now we can enjoy a bold new Cho Aniki game, Cho Aniki Zero for PSP. Released in 2009 in Japan, Cho Aniki Zero keeps the beefy protagonists of yore but adds in a modern anime flavor. The downloadable game arrived on the US PlayStation Store at the end of March. Yes, the following trailer plays up the franchise’s homoerotic elements. That’s more or less the series’ thing.
