Episodes from Liberty City available now on the PlayStation Store

Two years after the initial release of GTAIV – and nearly three years after former Xbox chief Peter Moore stated that the 360 release would be the only edition to receive DLC – “Episodes from Liberty City” is finally available for PlayStation 3, right now on the Store.

The PlayStation Blog received a rare visit from Rockstar Games to make the announcement. The user comments on the Blog point out something I did not consider. While buying the retail release means saving on PS3 HD space (as well as the ability to easily wait in the wings for the inevitable brick-and-mortar closeout discount on the $40 price), the downloadable version might allow the radio station content from “Episodes” to bridge into the main GTAIV game. Should you feel like playing that again. Most people seem to agree that “The Ballad of Gay Tony” was way better than “The Lost and Damned,” and only the PlayStation Store version would allow you to buy one ($20 each) and not the other.

The new trailer for some very old material is after the jump.

Is it $40 on the PS3 store. That sucks. I guess I should find solace in the fact it is only $30 on the PC for both episodes. You think it is going to go quickly to a Target red sticker? I am not that sure. They have not clearanced it on the 360 as of yet, and that game is now what, 3 or 4 months after release still at full price.

Maybe Steam will make it a crazy priced item in a month or two. I just hope I can wait that long.

At the least, Target or wherever will drop the price before the PS Store does. Yup, $19.99 apiece on the PS Store, I checked that out last night.

I guess if you live in a universe where you don't know how old this is, particularly Lost & Damned, $20 is OK given how much content you get… for what is one of the highest profile video games out there.

I will be buying this at some point, but I think I disagree about it being worth the money. PS3 users are being asked to pay the same price that 360 users did at launch for titles that are getting near a year old. Yes, there is about 6-10 hours of content in each pack, they are old games at this point. PC users do get a bit of a break, at $30, but I expected that same price point for the PS3 version of the DLC packs.

I also expected a cheaper price point just from the fact that these titles did not exactly light the world on fire on the 360. We do not have sales figures, but we know that Microsoft did not get $50 million worth of sales out of this.
