Sony Finally Buys Media Molecule

Well it took them gosh-diddley-darn long enough, but Sony Computer Entertainment has gone ahead and purchased Media Molecule as a first party studio (Joystiq, PS Blog). I’d wager that the founders of MM held out as long as they could for a really sweet deal, and frankly, given the unmitigated success of LittleBigPlanet can you blame them? They did just recently celebrate their 2 millionth user created level. They’ve also got a new RSS feed and Twitter setup to highlight their level picks. Now where’s that social networking thing they wanted to do where you could click a level on the web and queue it up on your PS3 to download, hm?

At any rate I’m very happy to see this finally come to pass because we all know full well that Sony’s taken a beating in the market share department this generation — Monster Hunter 3 is coming to the Wii for crissakes! If I were Media Molecule I would’ve started most every conversation with Sony with the words “You know Microsoft sold another 300,000 systems last month, that’s a lot of potential level builders, don’t you think?” or “Hey, that Wii developer kit isn’t hard at all!”
