Review: Dragon Ball Z – Ultimate Tenkaichi (PS3)

A few old favorites land on the PS3 this month, starting off with the delayed Episodes from Liberty City on April 13th, a reboot of a last-gen crimefighting-man-with-dog franchise with Dead To Rights: Retribution on the 27th (IGN), and the souped up Super Street Fighter IV, also on the 27th. Lest we forget Sega’s retread of the After Burner series with After Burner Climax coming to the PlayStation Network on April 22nd. Nier rolls in with what looks like a very non-Western action RPG vibe (IGN), also on the 27th.

The PSP has an odd mix of games headed its way in April, including a new Harvest Moon game (if you can call any of them new) with Harvest Moon: Hero of Leaf Valley and a UMD release of a former PS3 exclusive Fat Princess called Fat Princess: A Fistful of Cake. This new game looks like a single-player focused RTS with a tacked-on 8-player ad-hoc multiplayer mode, according to Joystiq’s hands-on. I found the AI in the Fat Princess PS3 Demo to result in nonstop stalemate games so I’d likely rent this one before considering buying it, if possible. And really, no offense to Harvest Moon fans. I’m sure Hero of Leaf Valley will do better than the attempts at innovation that Innocent Life tried to make even if it doesn’t even try to move past farm-and-save-wherever-from-big-company-and-raise-a-family-too gameplay. Heck, anything’s better than the pair of hideous PS1 ports glued together in Harvest Moon: Boy & Girl.

What else is rolling on this month? There’s a Lord of the Rings: Aragorn’s Quest game coming to just about every screen but the LCD on the local gas station’s #3 pump, and a possible disc release of the first two of the three DLC packs for Borderlands. Why they would put out the two without the third, instead of just waiting to put out all three in a Game of the Year edition is beyond me, but that’s what the calendar says might be headed our way. That’s about it.
