Crazy Goings-On at Infinity Ward, Activision

Submitted by on March 2, 2010 – 1:29 pm3 Comments

I am just getting caught up on the news of the day, but it seems that both of the studio heads at Infinity Ward, Jason West and Vince Zampella, were summarily dismissed from the company.

Apparently, according to the continuously updated story over at G4TV, security showed up at Infinity Ward’s building and escorted both studio heads from the building.  This was fullowed up by Activision stating that there had been issues of breach of contract and insubordination.

Further investigation showed that both Jason West and Vince Zampella had updated their LinkedIn pages showing them as former employees as of March 2010.  What does all of this mean for Infinity Ward and the Call of Duty franchise?  Only time will tell, but this cannot leave a good taste in the mouths of the employees still with the company.  Head over to G4 to read Patrick Klepick’s ongoing feed of the events in question.

Don't you worry, COD will be out this year. Even if it means the people at Neversoft have to put it out. We know they do a killer job on franchises like Guitar Hero.

But it won't be an Infinity Ward CoD. :(

I already said this in the forums, but I think this might have something to do with Bobby Kotick's statement about making Call of Duty into a subscription based game. They know the Call of Duty series' popularity is at its prime, and they probably want to take the World of Warcraft approach to squeeze out the most money possible. I have a feeling Vince and Jason might have been trying to stop this from happening, hence they were fired.

But it'll probably end up being a much stupider reason than that…
