Ones to Watch: Xbox 360 Releases for March 2010
This month, we have a huge schedule for the Xbox 360 in the month of March 2010. There’s a sports title, a couple of shooters, and of course, a fast paced strategy title for those that would want to play them on a console. So enough with the delays and let us get to the cavlcade of games this month.
As for the case mod this month, it is a rather cool looking Hellboy mod for an Xbox 360, found over at Geeky-Gadgets.com. Check ou the site for more picture and info on the mod.
Also make sure to check out the other Ones to Watch articles on PC, Playstation PSP/PS3 and Nintendo Wii/DS.
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 – After a whopping 3.5 million people downloaded the beta of Battlefield Bad Company 2, it was assured that this title was probably going to meet with a hint of success. However, some great gameplay, and TLC by DICE made Battlefield Bad Company 2 the shooter to play on Xbox 360 in March. The multiplayer is fluid and has an addicting feel of gameplay. You never get bored with it, and that is after playing the same map in the beta for the last month. Battlefield Bad Company 2 also hosts a solid single player campaign as well, even if it is a bit short. Look for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 on March 2nd, 2010.
MLB 2K10 – Last year’s entry in the MLB 2K series was a bit of a letdown. Even the developers have stated that it was not up to the caliber that they are use to delivering. So I was a bit aprehensive to put MLB 2K10 in this month’s list, but all of what we have seen so far makes me believe it is going to be a breakout game in March. Adding in the new My Player mode as well as the MLB Today mode adds a new dimension to this baseball title. A completely reworked online interface should improve the ability for gamers to have a satisfying online experience. I am still a bit on the fence with this title, but there is enough there to make it a solid title for March. Look for MLB 2K10 on March 2nd, 2010.
Final Fantasy XIII – After a long drought, the Final Fantasy series is finally coming to the Xbox 360. And not that online Final Fantasy stuff, I mean the real single player Final Fantasy series. While cramming a ton of information on to three DVDs on the Xbox 360, Final Fantasy XIII looks to be feature complete with its PS3 counterpart. This Final Fantasy also features a new combat system, along with new characters and of course, a new storyline. It will be interesting to see how Final Fantasy XIII will do on the Xbox 360, but Microsoft would say just getting the title on their console. Look for Final Fantasy XIII on March 9th, 2010.
Metro 2033 – I was a bit surprised to see Metro 2033 come to the Xbox 360, as it is a rather hardcore FPS title in the vein of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. on the PC. But the economics of today’s gaming business will tell you that a PC exclusive title will not have the returns that a console version of a title will do. That said, Metro 2033 looks absolutely gorgeous on the Xbox 360, and adds all the bells and whistles that come with being on the platform. As with the PC version, you will have the option to play the game in its native Russian with English subtitles, adding to the deep immersion already in place with Metro 2033. Look for Metro 2033 on March 16th, 2010.
Dragon Age: Origins Awakening – Coming quickly on the heels of the November release of Dragon Age: Origins, is the new expansion pack, Awakening. This is a standalone expansion that does not require people to own the original game. However, if you do have the original game, your save data will transfer over, along with all of the decisions you made in the game. It is a bit strange to see an expansion pack this shortly after the initial game’s release, espeically when that game was 60+ hours of gameplay. But some feel that Bioware should strike while the iron is hot. I feel that this title could fall into obscurity among all the great releases, due to the time commitment to finish it as well as the game it is based on. Look for Dragon Age: Origins Awakening on March 16th, 2010.
Just Cause 2 – Our main man, Rico Rodriguez is back in this sequel that kicks up the bar several notches. From the crazy new acrobatics, to the Anatomy of a Stunt trailers that have been released, the hype level has gone through the roof for this title. About the only thing that really is hurting Just Cause 2 is the indifference that the first game in the series was received with by gamers. I shrugged my shoulders at Just Cause, but watching all the videos for the sequel has me hyped up. Now we just have to see if Square-Enix and company will hit the mark with the final release. Look for Just Cause 2 on March 23rd, 2010.
Well, there you have it, the big picks for the month of March 2010 on Xbox 360. There are a few other titles coming in the month that could be hits, but do not equal up to these titles. Supreme Commander 2 hits, but will have a hard time hitting it with fans, and Game Room comes to the Xbox Live Arcade, but with a hit and miss launch release slate leaves a bit to be desired. Check back here in a month to see what the picks are for April 2010 on the Xbox 360.
