New Aeropause Coming and Aero-app Arrival

Submitted by Shane on February 8, 2010 – 11:20 amComments

I just wanted everyone to know that we’ve been working hard to update the look and functionality of Aeropause over the last couple of months and we’re just about ready to launch in the next couple days, maybe even tonight! The direction is more magazine feature-style with emphasis on features, podcasts, forums and regular articles.

Additionally, you can now read Aeropause on your iPhone/iPod with our RSS reader App (iTunes link) found here.

Stay tuned!

From a legibility point of view this new wordpress theme is a major step backwards.

The double columns structure creates more chaos then order. I've been reading Aeropause since it's beginning, and the single column with news items worked better. Hell, all major sites / blogs use it, because mutliple columns just take too much time for the viewer to focus. People still treat the screen as if it is a newspaper, it's not guys.

People glance sites, they don't read them. This new theme creates too much 'stuff' to look at, it is completely distracting me from the important bit, the articles.

You gotta change this guys, you gotta create better legibility here.
  • Thanks for the feedback. I do appreciate what you say. We'll take it on-board and discuss it internally.

I want to make clear though that my critique does not mean I think the new site is ugly or bad. Just "crouded", perhaps I could have been a bit more reversed in my previous wording. I also understand the need to upgrade the look and feel. I guess there is always a tradeoff and no doubt the site will grow and evolve. I still enjoy reading this site :-)
  • It's thoroughly awesome. :)
  • Wow this is going to take some getting used to. But it looks more fresh, the old site felt, well, old.

This kid right here can't wait!

This might be unrelated, but yesterday when I was in the forums, they looked a lot different for a few minutes and then they changed back to normal. Was this an effect of building the new layout? Did it have anything to do with the increase in forum activity recently? Or was this just a random occurrence?
  • Ahh that would be the avatar upload system not working ;) I'm working on getting the forums cleaned up.

Sweet! By the way, I'm loving the new layout. It's so much cleaner than before! Great job!
  • Even more importantly will be whether there is an Under Construction banner while the site transitions.

    is there cow bell?
  • it's the best iteration of the site yet, especially with the canadian bacon strips as sidebars, maple syrup GIF animations and Eskimo dancers in the footer.

The writers have a way to see it now so neeener neener nee ner!

Seriously though it looks quite nice. Big giant moose head on a Canadian leaf backdrop for the logo and dancing hamsters vertically between each content area. Magnifique!
