Fireteam Bravo 3 Bigger Than Expected

Catching up with recent Aeropodcasts I learned that Joe Haygood’s family alone has at least 3 PSPs now. Something Joe might want to consider is SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 3, a beefy SOCOM shooter I am surprised to learn that in addition to a full suite of five competitive online and adhoc multiplayer modes alongside 4-player co-op has a mission remix capability for replaying single-player maps and missions with user-specified criteria. Greg Miller in the 8.4 “Impressive” IGN review writes:

[Y]ou can pick any of the missions you’ve polished off before and redeploy in them with your own rules. You can choose how many enemies will be on the map, how hard it’ll be, what the enemies will look like, and what type of mission you’ll be playing – demolition (blow up targets), neutralize (kill target), or disable (sabotage targets).

Plus it features a nice batch of unlockables which you purchase using Command Equity points. You can actually see in real time how many of the points you’ll earn in custom missions.

A demo coming on February 11th should give anyone who wants it a good feel for how the game plays, too, with a single player mission and adhoc only multiplayer mission.

The PS Nation Blog post also reminds us of the bit of full-sized-console-style marketing: digital preorder bonuses by retailer and a different bonus for those who buy the digital copy directly from the store within the first 30 days.

My best friend and I used to annihilate Socom: Fireteam Bravo competitive multiplayer. In fact, one of my most treasured moments in gaming came from one specific clan war where I executed the perfect strategy, but ultimately got screwed over by my teammates.
