I really liked last year’s DBZ game, Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit 2. It felt like the franchise had finally achieved some serious attention with a game that was both deep and fun.

DarkStar One – Broken Alliance Announced for Xbox 360

A few years ago, a little space exploration title called DarkStar One dropped on to the PC, and garnered a cult following.  The mix of space combat, resource trading and other functions of the game made it a mainstay on my playlist for some time.

Jump into the now, and Kalypso media, the folks behind Tropico 3, have decided to bring the DarkStar One franchise to the Xbox 360, with DarkStar One – Broken Alliance.  With DarkStar One – Broken Alliance, the player will be able to work down several different paths of gameplay in the open world environment.  You can be a mercenary, battling for the highest bidder, or maybe you just want to create your own trading empire.  The way you proceed through the game is up to the player.

As stated before, I am a huge fan of the DarkStar One franchise.  The DRM was a problem, but the game itself was an incredible timesink, giving me tons of options for gameplay.  I am not sure how that will translate to console gamers, who tend to want instant gratification in their action games.  But with a good narrative, and options for either strategy or straight up combat, it could have a solid future on the Xbox 360.

DarkStar One – Broken Alliance will drop on the Xbox 360 in Summer 2010.  Check the jump for a host of new space, character and concept pictures from the game.

I'm a big fan of space sims but I had a hard time sticking with this game for long at all. I got it on Steam and I think that it really needs a good flight stick or something to play well, and I don't have one of those handy.
