Aeropodcast #121: Haygood Says the PC is Terrible

Submitted by on February 21, 2010 – 10:39 pm9 Comments

This week on the podcast, we talk about gaming and the world of 3D.  Is 3D the wave of the gaming future, or is it just another ill-fated fad that will go the way of the Power Glove.  Some of us think back to 3D gaming and PCs back 15 years ago, while some of us also see the issue of the glasses themselves.  Where do we end up on this topic.  Tune in to find out.

Also, we have a huge community corner this week, with a rapid fire section, questions about where we would go in the world, and which one of us gets sent on the suicide mission.

As always, the podcast is mixed together by our very own Stephen “Joe Cooley” Munn and his very own wheels of steel.  Our bumper music, Droid Girl, is provided by Lazyitis, so make sure to visit their MySpace page.

Download the podcast from here or subscribe to the podcast using one of the services below.   Also make sure to review us on iTunes and visit our Facebook group.

I pulled the trigger and picked up a GT 240 for $50 (w/ MIR) from Newegg this weekend. I was previously looking at maybe a 4650 or 4750, but I really didn't want to pay more than $50 for a card for an 'ancient' PC (AMD FX-based).

Good to see you stay in the Nvidia fold. I would have cried if you defected to the dark side of the Force, aka ATI. Good cards, but I still have issues with their driver support.

Yeah, I'm *ALWAYS* leary of ATI's drivers. Ever since my first ATI cards (Mach32 for Win3.11). When they would just drop support for hardware because they didn't feel like supporting it anymore I couldn't possibly buy their cards knowing that.

The worst burn was for the card that came w/ my PC when I started college. I don't remember the exact model but when MS released a new version of DirectX ATI decided to NOT release a new driver for the card because they didn't want to support it anymore. And this was back when DirectX was rev'd every year with only minor, subtle differences. Luckily I had replaced the card as soon as I received the computer with one of those brand-spankin new TNT2 Ultra's. Mmmm…

When Fourhman mentioned “Anyang,” I thought he was talking about the South Korean boy from the show Arrested Development, which I definitely recommend to anyone who hasn't seen it. They thought his name was Anyang, but he was really just saying “Hello.”

I always had nvidia cards when I was a member of the PC religious society.

Joe, did you really say “Donde esta es el bano”? You know that means, “Where is is the bathroom?” with one of the wrong forms of “is”. Bah!
